Thread: Superman

  1. Speaking of finite stories, one of the big books recently (that I know of) was "30 Days of Night" which had a really wild art style, some crazy violence and was just a 3 part story. It sold amazingly well (I can't find issue 2) and put the creaters into the lime light. The artist and writer (I think) of "30" are doing a new one now. I can't remember the name right now (I have it downstairs) that uses the same art style but it's about a guy who is basicly a monster PI. In the world of this comic book things like werewolves, vamps, ghouls, etc. are real and are a hidden part of society. This guy solves crimes and shit in that world. I think I'll take a ride to the comic shop tomorrow see if a new issue came in.

  2. 30 days of night was actually originally a movie script. when it was rejected, they converted it into a comic. the idea worked out really well too.

for those of you that don't know, 30 days of night involves a town in alaska in which the winter is so bad, the sun won't shine for 30 days. at the same time, a group of vampires converge on the town at the same time, and its up to the people to figure out how to survive.

  3. And this was rejected?! Fucking Hollywood I swear. That sounds awesome.

  4. It's not because of the weather that makes it night for so long, it's the geographic location. It's real too. A lot of places banned alcohol because people would get depressed from being in the dark for fucking weeks that they'd just drink and fucking die of alc. poisoning.

Oh the other books they have are "Dark Days" and the one I talked about "Criminal Massaqure". I spelled that like shit, but the latest one out is issue 4.

People can say what they want about Japanese comics, but one thing they have far over most American comics is that 99% of manga titles have a beginning and an end. A structured, specific story is told, and when that story is finished, it is allowed to be finished.
Actualy I have heard that Inu Yasha is stil goin on. I have no Idea why the publishers are workin Poor Ms Takahashi to death. I guess there are Manga fans in Japan that look at American comics and say: "Damn I wish that Kenshin was still in continuation! That would kick ass!"

  6. Correction: It's Criminal Macabre. Not the stupid thing I said above. I just read issue 4 and the story is getting damn good. I think I'll be following this one to the end.

According to the little blurb in the comic (Criminal Macabre) Sam Raimi optioned 30 Days of Night. Now THAT could be something.
