Thread: Dreamcast Phantasy Star Online servers shutting down

  1. The fact that I could play the original PSO, 6 months ago when I had dial up, was amazing in itself. Sega was'nt making any money off of it and still they gave their fans the service for free, long after Ver.2 came out.

Well lets see, they had sega channel, xbrand, some modem plugin for genesis (that never got any real support) and just lately they cut off their own seganet which can only be looked at as a failure (by the general public of course).

Usually when most companies stop supporting their games, there's either homebrew servers that keep it alive or they sometimes put it on gamespy, but that's mostly PC titles. I do wish they could open their code to the public so we have new servers up and running which they wouldn't have to worry about, I'm certain people still want to play either chu-chu or Alien front reguardless of what some higher-up says we can do with it.

Wow. Great job not answering my question. At all.

Seriously... how long should they keep them open for?

  6. Wasn't someone trying to get Virtual On to play on a server? What happened to that?

  7. Um, Sega didn't run the X-Band add-on, or own the technology. Sega has nothing to do with it barring one of their systems being used for the service.

There was also another unit called Catapult. I remember reading about it, but never heard of it's success.

Whoops, looks like Catapult was the manufacturer.

I can't say that I know what's going on with it. Might be in permanent hiatus, though there's always a chance that he'll resume work on it.

If I had a BBA, I'd check out the test drivers.

  10. this is the nature of things when you dont make online games that are user hosted
