Thread: Djital underground *sonic feature*

  1. Djital underground *sonic feature*

Well since djital underground is dead , Ill post my work up here. Basically it's about homebrew sonic games. Those of you that have read GAMEGO! issue2 have probably seen this little sonic game featured on page bottom of page 74, and there was something written about some sonic fan community who makes sonic games.
Anyways , Ethugg wanted me to write up on sonic homebrew games that month as there was supposed to a be feature on sonic.........
So heres the work, actually half of it......the other half was about hacked sonic roms ...which i unfortunately do not have a copy of.

  2. SONIC FANMADE GAMES

Well for starters most of the games can be found at these two sites http://ssrg.emulationzone.org/fanmade/
    And http://sonichq.org/.
Playing through these games was real torture , because of all the bad programming . In most of the games the developers couldn’t program the engine properly , and the engine gets screwed up every time you try to jump or roll . Consequently I’ve decided to focus more on games that aren’t rip off’s of the original Sega games .

    1)Sonic dz
    http://fanmade.emulationzone.org/tgfteam/sdz.gif
Developed by TGF team , this is one of the best homebrew sonic games around . The reason for this being that you get to play shadow .Unlike sonic , he doesn’t get screwed up every time you try to roll or jump , and doesn’t get stuck in walls .(Instead of spinning when your running fast , he sort of slides). But don’t expect a game that would rival Naka’s or even Sega Technical Institutes game design . The jumping sections . lead to cheap deaths as you have no clue where your landing and the fourth level is one of the slowest and ugliest levels seen ever .However , if you are a sonic fan the rest of the levels will be pretty fun ……
    2)Sonic 2099
    http://fanmade.emulationzone.org/tgfteam/sonic2099.gif
Once again developed by TGF team , a pretty decent platformer .You control sonic (no shadow this time , damn!) , which is quite similar to the other games cept he has a double jump , and he doesn’t really gain any speed .The lack of speed (its not slow , just the level design doesn’t allow for it) , is made up by pretty decent platforming action ,and new vehicles to ride on in each level.

    3)Sonic and Mario return
    http://ssrg.emulationzone.org/fanmad.../s&mr/msr2.gif
    http://ssrg.emulationzone.org/fanmad.../s&mr/msr1.gif

This is what Sega and Nintendo fanboys always wanted to do : beat the crap out of the others mascots using yours .Unfortunately ,you only have two moves per character . And if you’re a Nintendo fan you’ll be disappointed by the fact that the Sega characters are always better .(because of the way they jump).Overall , it’s a fun game for about two minutes (it need more moves )

    4)Sonic madventure
A top down Zelda-ish game by Red, with sonic in as the lead . The concept might be kind of retarded but this games pretty good ,for a homebrew game . The main draw to this game is its humor (which is sort of british ) , the rest of the game just supports the humor . The story involves , Sonics quest to escape from Amy with tails as his partner . It has you doing all sorts of stuff from ,trying to infiltrate Robotniks base , from fighting mechs on top of a highwind type ship (ff7 music included) , and running away from Amy. Sonic fans , or anyone in need of a laugh should check it out.
    5) Crazy cabbie sonic
    http://ssrg.emulationzone.org/fanmad...s/cab/game.gif

You control , Sonic and friends in a GTA type of view (top down) , taking people to their desired destinations . The main reason why I’ve included this is that it’s a fan favorite (god knows why). The levels are cramped , and small ………….and the controls aren’t too hot . However it isn’t really that bad(as it’s really easy to pick up and play) , if your fan of sonic and crazy taxi then you might enjoy this game.

    http://www2.gvsu.edu/~fredaa/srb2/zone1_2.gif
This game was featured in GAMEGO #2 , so I’ve decided to expand upon that. Basically it’s a 3-d sonic game designed , with 2D sonic in mind .The result is that the control are pretty badly messed up .It’s pretty hard to get rings , or even maintain speed running in a straight line due to the 3-dness . However , the level design is pretty good , and some of the levels in development have some very cool concepts .( http://www.srb2.org/)
    Knuckles millennium 2
bah -ive lost my word file on this one Ethugg might have it.Iev deleted the game from my computer , but I did remember it being a good game

    http://ssrg.emulationzone.org/fanmade/games/rr/drr2.gif http://ssrg.mulationzone.org/fanmade/games/rr/drr1.gif
You control Robotnik flying through genesis sonic levels , trying to recover his robots . The concept is cool , but is execution is pretty awful . Robotnik moves as if he has arthritis , taking years to beat levels .(you wouldn’t expect too much from a game made by a 14 year old would you?). You might like it though if you’re the kind of guy who wished Tom kicked Jerry’s ass , or brought Ergheiz just to see Sepiroth’s ending.
    Take control

    8)ONMI khaos
    http://ssrg.emulationzone.org/fanmade/games/ok/1.gif
    http://ssrg.emulationzone.org/fanmade/games/ok/2.gif
Another sonic game made by Red , probably the best platformer of the bunch . You control sonic , tails , knuckles , and Red trying to stop Robotniks ultimate weapon , the OMNI chaos .Unlike , other homebrew games , it actually has levels of decent size , and it has bosses ,. Not only that but it has original levels , and baddies for you to rejoice over . As usual this game is a little rough around the edges , but if you’re patient enough, download this gem.

  3. Um. Half your images don't load...and why didn't you just put it all in one post?
