GameCube internal battery questions

does anyone know if they are rechargable? are they replaceable? has anyone had any trouble with the system clock in their GC? i remember setting mine the first time i turned on my GC. but never since, my DC clock needs to be set if i don't turn it on after a couple of days. but the GC has never asked.
what's the deal?
