  1. By tonal modification I meant like when bu4 不 changes to bu2 if it is placed before another tone 4 (i.e. 用 ). Cantonese has a lot more tone modifications, and a lot more tones to boot.

  2. You can learn Chinese here, but yea... the tones are what makes Chinese difficult. But the reading system is much cleaner than Japanese. Chinese pronunciation is straight-up buggin' if you aren't familiar with it or another tonal language.

    edit: for what it's worth, I "like" Chinese more than Japanese, and part of me wishes I took that instead.

  3. I agree with diffx, and that's really my only hang-up. It'll just take some getting used to.
