Hmm Didn't know there were so many variations, and the Faxandu was somehow connected. Weren't the Xanadu games also related to Falcoms Dragon Slayer series in name, Legend of Heroes?

There's a rundown of the Dragon Slayer series here:

It encompasses a *lot* of Falcom's different (sub-)series. Legend of Xanadu I and II look sweet. I'd like to pick up both of them soon, now that I've got a Duo-R on the way. A note: Dragon Slayer IV came to the US as Legacy of the Wizard.

i've been wanting to play this for years. it was one of those games where you saw pics of the cutscenes back in the day and you thought it had to be the coolest shit in the world. if i get my hands on it one day, it might be the first time i force myself to play through a text heavy import.

I think I remember having some painful times with Faxanadu's passwords.. like the 0's looked like O's.. etc.. I'm sure it was Faxanadu that had an annoying font but I could be wrong. Anyone else had issues with it?

Faxanadu's password system was horrible for that reason. They gave you over 40 characters. The entire alphabet, capital and lowercase, plus numbers. It's really hard to tell O's, 0's and I think Q's apart as well. I can remember tons of times haven't to go back to old passwords because I didn't write my newer ones down correctly. I think I read that the Japanese version had a save feature, but they took it out in the US one to save money.

I got Faxadanu when I was young and really enjoyed it. I played throught it (with game genie codes) a few years ago and still had a good time. It's a huge adventure, and often takes time to find out where to go next. Lots of equipment, which is rare in an action/RPG. I think the soundtrack for the game is simply incredible, lots of catchy tunes. It's nothing but a classic to me.

I think I found out about Legend of Xanadu on this board a few years ago. I tried to find an iso of the game but had no luck, wouldn't have been able to get far anyway without an FAQ it sounds.
