  2. Tragic- Check your local EB's/Gamestops. I see used copies of this one fairly regularly. It's no Suikoden as far as rare PS1 RPGs go.

In regards to the game itself, what I played I loved. Especially the presentation and the mood/atmosphere the game set. What I really didn't like was, after the first dungeon is clear, they set the whole time limit thing, plus the "you only get the best ending on hard difficulty" thing irks me too. I'm ok with that concept for something like an action game, where you can finish it in under 10 hours, but I don't feel like replaying an RPG over for the best ending. Yes, I know I could just choose hard, but I like it when a game is designed with one difficulty setting and just gets progressively harder. That's just me I suppose.

All in all, it's an awesome game despite my minor gripes with it.

  3. Suikoden is rare? Holy smokes, I got it for $9.99CDN brand new at Zellers, as well as Suikoden 2 for $14.99CDN. They were the only copies they had left.

I don't feel so bad now, seeing I'm not the only one with this puppy on my pos. I really have to start working on the pile sooner or later.

Oops, yeah, totally forgot about Element/Ether Scepters. They do break, but only when you use Great Magic.

  5. Spike, look on eBay for either Suikoden, I guarantee you'll be shocked. I've got a shrink-wrapped Suikoden III just in case

  6. Heh this is some weird deja vu I'm having. When I used to post on this board loooooooong ago. VP had come out and was grossly over looked. Now seems like everyone is like "Oh I heard about that game" or "I missed that one and need to pick it up".

Glad its getting some renew'd interest cause it really was a lil gem of a game.

What was some of yall's favorite characters from the game?

  7. Same as Frostwolf, as far as having it and not played it yet.

  8. NoFace: I've worked at an EB for 2 years and have never seen it traded in. On the other hand, every 3-4 months we'll get a copy on Suikoden 1 traded in. We have one now infact.
I thought you were gay.... i guess not.

  9. this game is completely, completely lovely, and i think it's definitely the best "tri-Ace style" game i've played (that's meant to include the tales games in the mix, basically, i guess.)

i didn't enjoy SOSS much, actually, and i played about five hours of it before giving up.

anyway, VP has amazing artwork (i bought the artbook, nice) and cool/interesting story. i actually like raising up characters and sending them to valhalla because it's part of the play mechanics and thus it's like racing to raise the characters. heh. i like to raise characters though, which would probably be considered a character flaw by the JRPG h8rs on the boards. =P

aaaaanyway, it's a super-cool RPG and i was very pleased indeed to hear at E3 that yamagishi from tri-Ace seemed to want to make a sequel to it:

SO3 is probably my most-looked-forward to PS2 game of the next several months. more so than FFX-2 and i'm a big FFX fan. it looks quite suave.

lots of RPGs have manga in japan, actually. i have persona manga, and there was persona 2 manga that i didn't bother buying because, well, i have the games, right? i've seen the VP manga at kinokuniya stores but wasn't inclined to buy it.

  10. A bump for good measure.

I've been going through my PS1 pile of shame recently, completing or buying games that I had neither the time or resources for. This brings me to this little gem. It cost me a pretty penny, but I got a brand-new copy of it and my love for it is renewed. I had borrowed it from a friend, but dropped the ball on buying it at a decent price. Next thing I knew, I was buying it online for almost 100 bucks. The graphics have lost a little of its luster since I first played, but it's never phased me in the slightest.

Some other games I intend to finally complete/buy:

    One
    Vagrant Story
    Parasite Eve 2
    Threads of Fate
