Kenseiden is a great game. I think I liked it better than Shinobi....
The best thing about it was the atmosphere. It played and looked so Japanese and it's so unique. It's been so long that I forget the plot, but I am pretty sure it was based on Japanese history as well. Interesting stuff. I agree about the non-linearness too. That was great.
I must admit that I found the game challenging way back when it came out. I don't think I ever finished it. I should go back and give it a shot and try to finish it one day.
