Thread: What Cell Phone Do You Carry?

  1. When you have a decent 3G network you don't need WiFi. End of story.

  2. Why not give people the option? Honestly, you can't make a strong argument for it when you're not giving people the option to choose.

Verizon is forcing data plans with many of their phones now. It's irksome for me because I don't need it. My phone is pretty much a text haven and that's it. Ever since I hung up full-time reporting my need for 24/7 email and web services ended.

My contract is up in September. If Verizon won't give me a phone without a data plan I'm just going to cancel and get Boost Mobile.

Yeah. I have an unlimited data/200 msg a month plan. If I can't keep that (My plan has been grandfathered for the past 4 years at a flat $50) I just won't get a smartphone.

  4. Verizon forces plans with their Blackberries, I don't know about the other smartphones. I've never had any real desire to use the web features or any of the extra stuff, but the phone was a gift so it's way nicer than I'd have sought on my own. Hell, I never use the cameras or any of that stuff that's more or less standard now, I just want nice keyboards.

The Blackberry plan isn't that bad though. It's $29 a month (unlimited data/up to 5GB? I find conflicting information) and since we're in a Cleveland Clinic family plan we get most things at half price. Whee

  5. They force you to do so on the Voyager and probably going to do so with their future phones.

  6. Whoever told you you NEEDED a data plan on a voyager is lying to you.

The only phones its required on as of right now are the Blackberries, HTC Touch Pro, Diamond, Samsung Omnia & Saga.

  7. I have a dudeberry and I got rid of the data plan. Whoop whoop.

  8. Internet access on the Voyager sucks an alarming amount of dick. Verizon should pay you for that shit. It's like being on the internet in 1996 with a 2" screen.

VZ does not force data on Voyager. My fiancee has Voyager and I did previously and they did not force it on me. It doesnt even require it nor is the phone worthy of surfing the web. Its great for texting though. If they were to force, it would be text messaging. Blackberries, HTC or PDA phone used for business, internet or email would require data. My coworker has Omnia and I dont remember if he was forced into data. I have to ask. My aunt got a BB for her bday 2 years ago and she didnt need a data plan. If she was to get a new BB, AT&T would force her to get a data plan.

I'm not fond of AT&T's plans. If you add a feature or something, you renew your contract. Its only if you remove or downgrade you dont renew. Thats how it was about 2 years ago when I was with them. With VZ, I can upgrade, downgrade without renewing or starting fresh.

Yes. VZ forces data on BB's. BB plan is $30 a month. Unlimited data used on phone and the 5GB is when you're tethering (hooking up to laptop in order to get internet connection). I get 15% off my cell plan and 20% off the data.

If the phone wasnt mainly focused on web, it will suck. Its main focus was for text messaging.

  10. My Razr has been sucking dick for a long time now, but today it completely stopped working. My two year contract with AT&T is expired and I want a phone with a full qwerty keyboard for texting, and wifi so I can browse the internet without paying for a data plan. What are my best options?
