Thread: What Cell Phone Do You Carry?

  3. Anyone with two phones?

I'll be starting a new job here in a week or two. There's a chance that they might pay for the majority of my monthly iPhone bill after moving to unlimited minutes. However, I'm weighing the pros and cons of tying my personal life that closely together with business. They use Sprint (unlimited everything); if I went that route, I'm sure I'd grab a Palm Pre.

I'm still hung up on the idea of occasionally having to carry around two phones, though. During the weekend I can just forward the number, but during the week it'd be full on geekery (Sprint charges for call forwarding, wtf...). Anyone else in the same position? Thoughts?

    Pros:

    • Separate phone for business
    • Not having to answer every unknown number as, "Company X, this is Schlep."
    • Pre looks like it has a better interface for email
    • I'm a mobile nut and would love to have a Pre.

    Cons:

    • Carrying around two phones and looking like a nerd/douchebag
    • Having to sync my iPhone calendar with Google and then back to the Pre and vice versa to manage my time
    • Yet another 'computer' to have to administer every day

Long post, just looking for thoughts.

The multiple calendar syncing can fuck right off. I got a mobileme account so it would just do it by itself.

I'd never want to carry two phones. If your work will pay for your phone, I'd recommend letting them. Just don't answer unknown numbers outside of business hours and you're good.

  5. Yeah, I'd go that route except I'll be expected to answer no matter what the number is. Google Sync is kind of like MobileMe. Basically you set up Calendars/Contacts through Exchange on the iPhone and it syncs automatically with Google. If I understand correctly, the Pre has the functionality built in and will automatically sync as well. So changes made on one should go to the other without any effort on my part.

I used to have a small business and used my personal phone for business as well. It got to the point where I didn't even want to answer the phone anymore, because I was tired of waiting for a personal call and getting a business call instead. 24/7 connectivity blows.

  6. Using the same phone for both business and personal is a nightmare. Carry two phones if you have to.

  8. Alright, my Blackberry Pearl is a big piece of crap. It constantly buzzes twice and then has the flashing red alert light as though I have a new message. There are no new messages (and I have no hidden applications or anything like that). I've pulled the battery as described on help forums and nothing helps. Short of leaving the phone off, it will not stop doing this crap. It's happened before and will go away on its own sometimes, and then just come back.

    Ideas?

  10. Throw it on the ground then proceed to jump up and down yelling "Booga, booga, booga!"

Srsly, when mine is flashing red it means I have a message. Maybe could be a voicemail or perhaps a hidden system message in your butt.

Or your sweaty hands leaked into the phone's internal electronics and short circuited the red light circuitry.
