Thread: What Are You Reading?

  1. The Playbook by Barney Stinson.

  2. #1632
    Blood Meridian

  3. I finally finished A Feast for Crows. Can anyone recommend another fantasy or sci-fi series of such high quality? I've read all of Gene Wolfe already.

Going through Eisenhorn for the 5th time. Love this omnibus so much!
Read most of the Drizzt Books except for the King series'. Im a little sick of drizzt. No desire to finish.
I was going through the Yhuuzon Vong invasion in the star wars books, but im sick of how the only characters that seem to be allowed to live and be heroes are the big three. so i stopped reading that.
Im looking to start Neuromancer and Snow Crash, along with Ringworld and Song of Fire and Ice.
I did read "do androids dream of electric sheep", "Endors Game",and the Ultramarines Omnibus recently. All very good. Ultramarines was a little too much of the typical war and death of the warhammer 40k universe. Enders game and Androids was fucking amazing though. First time i read any of them.

Have you read the Ravenor omnibus? I think I like it even more than Eisenhorn. Of course the Gaunt's Ghosts books are still the best. I can't read anything outside of Abnett.

Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson and Ian Cameron Esslemont. The series has an outstanding depth. The world and characters are complex and well thought out. I think the series is often compared the A Song of Fire and Ice because it is mature, brutal, and elaborate. I could go on forever about the pros and cons... great series though. Highly recommended. One of the big positives though is the dedication of the creators. Erikson puts out Storm of Sword sized novels yearly and the tenth and final novel of the main series releases in the U.S. March 1st. Esslemont writes slower but still puts out some great stuff. It's kind of a relief waiting all this time for A Dance with Dragons, knowing someone actually has an ending to their story and can get you there.

The first book is called Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson.

kingoffighters is also reading this series.

I been thinking about picking up Ravenor. Not sure how i feel about him possibly killing off Eisenhorn. But i love Nayl and i know he's rolling with Gideon. I agreen on the Abnett books. They are the only things that seem to be worth reading from the black library. Everythign else is so typical. Especially the space marine stuff. I read the Ultramarines and the first Space Wolves omnibus. Aside from the beginning they are damn near identical in structure and content.

Do it. It's got a slightly different feel than Eisenhorn, more gritty urban stuff. Honestly it makes Eisenhorn look like a giant asshole when you see how Ravenor gets shit done.

Also, read A Song of Ice and Fire as soon as you can. You'll kick yourself for not reading it sooner.

Thanks for the tip. I've seen Erikson and Abercrombie thrown around as suggestions for others that are fresh off of ASOIAF. However, I've also heard doubts about the writing of one of them and I think it was Abercrombie. Will definitely be reading this next.

I wouldn't recommend Abercrombie's The First Law Trilogy. It just seems to borrow from some of the bigger fantasy sources and not really do much with them.
