Thread: What Are You Reading?

  1. I figure I'm going to give it another try when it's warmer, doesn't really seem like a cold weather novel.

  2. Even though I'm new and wandered over from the Find A Death board, I'm going to throw my two cents in here since I'm such a consummate book whore.

I took on a new genre and read all of Karin Slaughter's books - gory crime mystery stuff - but really good. Any book that makes you whisper "jesus!" to yourself frequently while reading is a good read.

Frances Farmer's bio Will There Really Be A Morning? was pretty unbelievable. Five years in a nuthouse (back when ice baths for 10 hours was "good" therapy) - it was far more disturbing to read about than I thought it would be.

12 Days On The Road by Noel Monk - all about the Sex Pistols' US tour. Not groundbreaking, of course, but one of the more "accurate" and interesting portraits of the band.

Oh, and I saw some mention of Clive Barker's stuff. His writing has always been near and dear to me - The Great and Secret Show and Everville are my favorites - to the point that I took my (signed!) copy of Everville into Kim Saigh (tattoo artist extraordinaire) and read parts from the book, to her for the tattoo on my right arm. Brilliant books if you get the chance, really.

The Sex Pistols were trash. British punk rock (with a few exceptions) was trash.

Read the first one first. Both are pretty good though.

I wasn't suggesting they had talent. I think there's few that argue that they did.

I like plenty of talentless bands. guitar wolf being a perfect example. I just hate the sex pistols for all the reasons in the world.

    thread hijack over.

  6. I'm reading Their Eyes Were Watching God by Hurston for class. I've already read it before. After I finish it I have to read Invisible Man by Elison. I've also already read that. Bummer.
    Totally!

  7. Are you taking "Black People Can Write Too!"?

Just hope you don't have to read A Lesson Before Dying, that book is dog shit.

These are indeed excellent reads. Great and Secret Show is his best work I think. Imajica and the Books of Blood are also rad. Clive Barker is awesome.

    This statement is the truth.

This statement, however, is patently false.
To boldly go where lots of men have gone before...

  9. I enjoy the Sex Pistols.

  10. The sex pistols are dick. Seriously. They are not nearly as awesome as they think they are. Important, I guess, but horrible, yes. The only thing of worth is that they inspired The Buzzcocks and Joy Division.
