I'm wondering if he isn't using that as a means to come into contact with Ed and Al, because either he knows Ed would never seek him out openly or because he can't actively search for them ... though the preview for episode 43 sort of threw out that theory. Was Ed and Al's attempt to revive their mother preordained [as I'm sure their father knew of their attempt, if he didn't why didn't he return home?], was Al's purpose to become the embodiment of the Philosopher's Stone [he's a soul bound to the Philosopher's Stone now, could that be a recipe for the Homonculus getting their soul]?
As for controlling the Homonculus, I'm sure it's deeper than this, but it probably has something to do with fulfilling their wish to become human. What interests me is the role Mustang is going to play in all of this, I mean he was at Ed and Al's house when they tried to revive their mother and while it seems like his intentions are good, I have a feeling his role in the end has been predetermined for quite some time.
