Yeah. I thought we were together forever too. That's why I sorta let the 1st time slide and didn't say anything. Also, we pretty much had everything. Nice place to live, family car, you name it. Then it all went POOF.Originally Posted by bahn

i'd like to settle down some day but i don't want to get married.

i'll get married when i feel i'm good and ready.
Damn, you actually link marriage with something videogame related. Good work.Originally Posted by Sl1p

It seems like there are certain milestones in life that you really notice. As you grow up you notice events that change what your life is like. Getting your drivers license, first girlfriend, graduating HS, going to college, graduating college, starting a career, getting married, having children. There's more than that, but those are really the basics. I've heard friends of mine mentioning marrige here and there and it's really fucking weird to hear shit like that from the people you've grown up with or known for years. Makes you realize that the world (the world as you see it) is heading for some serious changes.

that sounds dangerous/scary to me. feeling as though you have everything you could ever want. seems like some people just want to end with marriage, and think that that's all it's gonna take to be happy for the rest of thier lives. you should still have goals and dreams....and something to shoot for in yourself and in your life. i think people that realise this fact and are married end up being pretty happy. i could be wrong.Originally Posted by raziel
Well I still had dreams and goals. Getting a Master's, traveling around the world with her, all of it. Well now that I'm without her, I still have those goals and to hell with her.Originally Posted by rama

given my future choice of employment, thats not an option, but overall i think it is good, most of my friends right now are either married or engaged, and it seems really nice, but i havent seen the effects of the wear and tear yet, and worse yet, kids..(GASP)

I mean, currently I am not lonely or anything - it's just too early to be thinking about marrigage right now with her.
so, in other words, you'll get married when you feel you're good and ready, right?Originally Posted by bahn

I dont see the benefits of marriage....just a waste of time, money and its something instilled in the minds of women that its something you HAVE to do if you are together long enuff.
I see nothing wrong with just being together/living together and keeping it at that. At least then you have the option of leaving whenever you get tired of each other....no messy/expensive divorce...

I very much look forward to getting married and starting a family. I don't feel like I am ready for it just yet, even tho' I am older than my parents were when I was born. There are still things I need to do in my life before I am ready to settle down. I'd like to live in Europe, save some money, etc.
I do feel that getting married is a good goal for myself. I am much older than my sister and watching her grow up and helping raise her made me realise just how rewarding it must be to have children and have a family. So many people say it is the best thing in life and I tend to believe them.
Anyway, I know many happily married people as well as several divorsed people. It seems like with most of the divorsed people it was very predictable that it was going to happen. That's always a shame.
