Chicago style pizza is an aquired taste, I think. As a little kid I didn't appreciate it, but that's because as a little kid I was trained to shovel down Domino's when it came to the door, and that's what we called "pizza." But as I got older, I came to appreciate the wonder and the magic that is Lou Malnati's.

I wouldn't go as far as to say anyone who can't enjoy it is uncultured swine and must be dragged outside, where they will be beaten, locked in metal boxes in direct sunlight for days, and then crucified... and then shot... but close!

I'm still in search of good pizza in Boston. I have some names of some places, but I have yet to investigate.

3 uncles, 2 cousins, and an uncle used to own a bagel store; so I know bagels.

I would never be able to survive in a place that didn't have loads of good bagels and pizza, which is why I think I'll be in NY for the duration of my life.

  3. Deep dish pizza == Almost as bad as Spago style pizza or "pizza creations" to me. Deep dish is so bad, it's unfathomable to me that people would like it more than regular-style. Ketchup on pizza? Ugh. Who thinks up this stuff? I'll take a plain cheese pizza from New Haven over anything any day. Thin crust and the bottom's gotta be burned.

  4. Actually, Ketsup on pizza isn't as bad as it sounds.

Ketchup is the most vile substance on the face of the earth. Sulfuric acid > ketchup.

I miss NY style bagels since I moved away. Last time my parents visited they brought me a bag and it was great.

Montréal bagels are equally if not more famous than NY bagels... but they are a very different kind of item. They are tiny and chewy with huge holes and a totally different flavour. They are ok, just way different. I enjoy annoying icepop by calling them "glorified Cheerios".

So, yeh, I miss food like pizza and bagels and Rice-a-Roni ... but the things is, if I moved back home I would miss Montréal food even more than I miss NY food now. This place is unbelievable when it comes to restaurants and even the quality of produce and meats at the supermarket. I was in NJ for the summer of 02 and I missed good chocolate milk, French bread, quality veggies, nice restaurants, etc. One day I may move to Sweden and miss even more things, but at least I will have Swedish food to enjoy. You can't ever have it all if you like a lot of things

Can't say I've had that... wait, is that some kind of misconception of what deep dish is about? There's been a lot of comments to that effect, and I've never heard of or eaten anything like that... but ketchup sounds hideous on pizza.

    Ketchup IS hideous on ANYTHING.

As a kid I used to eat a lot of it. I like it on potato chips now... but that's about it. And I'm particular about what kind of those I'll actually have it with. It's good, really.

But I rarely eat it on hot dogs anymore, not at all on hamburgers, especially not on chicken... well, except for really bad chicken nuggets that need masking.
