Thread: Review: Halo: Combat Evolved

  1. Raspberry Review: Halo: Combat Evolved

Those keeping up with Halo's storied development know the score. Once touted as one of the biggest PC games to hit the shelves, the game was quickly snatched up by Microsoft and ported to the Xbox just in time for the system's launch two years ago. It proved to be one of the smartest things that Microsoft has ever done with the system, with Halo becoming the standard to beat for console FPS games. Now, two years later, the game has finally returned to the platform that it was originally intended for. Has time been kind to the game that all Xbox owners have known and loved for the past two years? Read AFX's review to find out.

I like the PC version A LOT better. Now at least I have decent control of the game with my trusty mouse and keyboard. Damn controllers

  3. About the only thing I agree with in this review is the grade Short review, and it seems too focused on cracking jokes than the actual game. That's not too big of a deal I guess, but I don't know how you could totally disregard the single player if you've played on Legendary --it's just so, so much better that it should be a crime to write the SP off without playing it. And in your description of the multiplayer, I don't know where you came up with the player stereotypes, because honestly, in the about a dozen and a half hours I've put into the online game, I've never seen tactics like those used to any degree larger than minute (and the first isn't even possible, even if shields are turned off ). Delegating just a single sentence to entire body of Halo's audio is quite a disservice, too. Anyway, just giving you a hard time, but I really do think you could've put a little more into the review, I know you're a fan.

Uhhh, wasn't Halo originaly ( way back when ) supposed to be a Mac title? And it wasn't just the game that was snatched up, they bought the damn developer too ( probably so Halo 2 wouldn't end up just going to the highest bidder ).

  6. AFAIK I believe it was coming out for Mac, then they switched it to PC very early in development. I never heard too much about the game before it was announced for PC though. I could be wrong on this, of course.
If my memory of her has an expiration date, let it be 10,000 years.

  7. I think it was actually going to both before MS nabbed it, since Bungie has always been a really big supporter of the Mac. They are bringing it to Mac now, though.
