Ninjas and chroloform and tripwire, oh my!

Eidos has announced that Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, sequel to the popular Hitman: Codename 47, will have gamers placing hits on both the Playstation 2 and Xbox consoles when it is released this September. Denmark-based Io Interactive, the same developer that created Hit, is developing the sequel.

“The Hitman series is groundbreaking in the stealth shooter genre,” said Chip Blundell, Marketing Director of Eidos Interactive. “The nature of the series lends itself perfectly to the gaming consoles. Hitman 2 places gamers in the role of a hired gun codenamed Agent 47, and provides them with innovative and thrilling missions that will put the Hitman series at the top of its genre.”

The core level structuring is left much more open to the gamers in Hitman 2 than its predecessor. While you can still make the decision to complete the missions Rambo style, you are given the option to complete each of the missions with your main target as the only casualty. In addition, an enhanced inventory system will allow gamers to not only carry much more equipment and weapons, but also allow you to carry over weapons and items from previous missions, eliminating pre-mission “shopping.” New non-lethal weapons, such as chloroform and stun guns, will be added as well.

“The Hitman 2 team is building on the original Hitman in order to develop a stylish game built from the ground up for the advanced video game consoles,” says Janos Flosser, Managing Director of Io Interactive. “Hitman 2’s incredibly intensive gameplay and in-depth character interaction makes for an incredible third person based gaming experience.”

For now, check out these screens from both the Playstation 2 and Xbox versions as you wait patiently for September to roll around.
