Thread: Let's diffusionx: Fur Fighters

  1. Let's diffusionx: Fur Fighters

Okay guys, Fur Fighters is not that old but I fear that it may slip through the void forgotten, and its a damn shame, because it is without a doubt one of the best games Ive ever played.

I bought it for like 10 beans after the Dreamcast was already dead and let me say, I was very surprised by it. Fur Fighters' cuddly facade masked a kick-ass, MDK-style action game that really had tons of violence (that was just disguised... cotton comes out of enemies when you shoot them) and excellent controls. LOTS of gunplay, all excellently done.

If I remember right, the game had 6 different characters, all with different skills - and ALL of them were great characters and offered something to the game and helped you get through the brilliantly done puzzles.

Many have complained about the size of the game, and yes it may very well be too fucking big. Still, you could pretty much play as much as you want and get enjoyment out of it - the WHOLE DAMN GAME is great, and whether you play for 2 hours or 35 you will get lots of enjoyment out of it. The levels here are very well-conceived, and perfectly implemented.

Yadda, yadda, and so forth. This really was a brilliant title, completely overlooked (even by me, for a while) - but I figure most who played it knew just how good it was. If you ask me, Bizarre Creations is one of the best developers out there - they made this, which is one of my favorite games ever, and Project Gotham, which is one of my favorite games ever.

    Post your thoughts.

  2. I loved this game. Great addition to any Dreamcast collection. The environments are well thought out, and the level design isn't horrible either.

It was not exactly stellar in the multiplayer department, but the single player was great. If anything, this game just suffered from trying to be too ambitious.

PS: I predict people bashing it without playing it. But who knows...

Played the demo when I first got my DC. Never could get used to the MDK control scheme, it felt awkard uncomfortable and after being so used to N64 Rare scavenger hunt games, it felt too different. Don't play many PC games, but in console games it seems so starnge esp platformers to have a button move you forward. Otherwise beside the control scheme I got the impression that it was a fetch quest, get new character, rinse repeat. I think I was worn out on that premise after Donkey Kong 64. I may try this out again and I might need to spend more time with it, but first impressions it wasn't for me, and I was kinda surprised to hear it was one of the higher praise DC titles.

  4. I also despised the control scheme. Everything but that was gravy though.

  5. There was nothing wrong with the control scheme. Like I said the game wasn't a fucking Rare-wannabe fetch quest, it was an action game/3rd person shooter.

And its not like the developers could've made the control so that one stick moved and one stick looked, because oh the Dreamcast pad sucked shit and there wasn't 2 analog sticks.

So... imagine youre playing Red Faction or Turok Evolution, but instead of the 2nd analog stick, you have buttons.

If you cannot wrap yourself around that concept you are an idiot.

I liked the demo, bought it, played it, stopped playing it, and haven't got back to it yet.

That was like 2 years ago.

But I really did enjoy what I played of it. I agree with diffx about the controls.

This is basically my story too. I completed three or four levels but haven't gone back to it. It was good from what I recall...not outstanding, but good.

Probably another game that many dismissed because of OMFGteHkidd13 graphics.

  8. Easily one of the best games in the Dreamcast Library. Biomechanic, bbobb and myself were the only 3 people on this board that actually liked it. The game really is simply brilliant. The level designs are MASSIVE and extremely fun, each level will take at least an hour to finish, each filled with a ton of puzzles and fun mini games. The beaver dam levels were amazing, and the dino world was gigantic. The music was also really well done, and the game looked fantastic in VGA.

I remember the reviews and they all seemed off base, the fact the game was so fucking huge was what made the game great, it wasn't a negative aspect at all. It made the game feel like an epic adventure. And most of the people who complain about the game have not played it for more than 5 minutes or never beat the first world, because all the beaver dam levels and beyond are incredible.

This game was so good I gladly bought the PS2 version, even though they tooled around with it (cel shading and giving the animals voices).

If you're sitting on the fence about this game, don't be a douche bag and buy it already, you won't regret it.

  9. I still laugh at Diffusion's mockery of Recap's thread style but I liked the game, I just never had enough time to finish it. I got up to the museum(yeah first level whoopee) and as far as I got was the laser area.

One day I'll replay it though, and I prefer the DC version cel-shaded as much as I like that style of graphics. It just looked off for some reason and tacked on.

  10. I sense a common theme in this thread.

So far, 4 people in this thread (Jeremy, Master, myself, and Regus) have confessed to playing it. All of us thought it was good - Jeremy's post was short, but he likes everything, so I think its fair to say that all four of us really thought the game was great.

The rest of you have barely played it.

But if Master, Regus, and myself (jeremy's opinion doesn't really matter) all loved it... hmmm maybe we're on to something?

You all MUST play this game more! Im not speaking from the perspective of a hardCORE!!!!oneone gamer, Im not saying this with a sort of arrogant shithole/Bar81 slant, Im just saying this because you guys are missing out on a very, very fun, well-designed, and excellent 3D action game.
