Thread: Kya: Dark Lineage

  1. Well this game really deserves more recognition. I played through it a bit on the weekend and it's a finely tuned game. Every aspect of the game from the fighting to the platforming is well implemented with some really nice looking graphics. The character designs might not be the best ever but they are better than Havens. The map system takes a little getting used to but overall it isn't that bad.

I love the aspect of changing the wolfens back to their nativ form so that they can go back to the village and open up new shops and what not. Great idea. I've fought one boss fight so far and it was pretty cool, if you die in the game you don't start back to far from where you were and whatever you had accomplished remains, like if you beat all the wolfen in the area and fall off a cliff you'll start back with the wolfen all gone already.

For the price I really have no problem recommending this game to anyone who enjoys platforming/adventure. It really is a great game. The voice acting isn't as bad so far as I was led to believe either.

That is about the finest example of the phrase "that's not saying much" I've ever heard.

  3. Meaning if you can deal with havens you can deal with this ones.

Oh and for what it's worth Brazul, the final baddy looks pretty wicked.

I'm bumping this thread to give more exposure to this gem. Despite some mediocre character designs, Kya is one of the better platformers this generation. It shouldn't be mentioned alongside crap like Haven.

    This describes it well.

    And bugs. Lots of bugs.

I'm most of the way through the game and I haven't encountered any bugs yet. It did crash on me once but I figured that was because the used copy I bought is scratched to hell.

  7. I am going to pick this game up probably when it drops to even cheaper because I am trying to save as much money as possible at the moment. I think the character looks really lame myself, but I really learned my lesson with Vexx. Fucking hate the design of Vexx but the game is easily one of my favorite platformers of all time.

Haven is pretty fun as well. Another crappy character design that I think turned most people off. But the game it self has a lot of great ideas going for it. They did a really good job of actually making it feel like you are traveling the globe. They did go a little overboard with the amount of different gameplay styles throughout the game and could have worked in more pure platforming. But its a great game for the price (which is like 5 dollars at Best Buy now). I can really only recomend it to diehard platformer fans with an open mind.

That would be one of the bugs. My copy was brand new and it crashed on me a few times. The further you get into the game the more bugs you'll encounter. There's nothing that kills the overall enjoyment of the game, but they can still be annoying.

  9. I hate it when games crash, I have so many brand new games lock up on me its amazing. I can't remember a time where a game would just stop working on me during the SNES through the Dreamcast time frame. The NES would stop but thats from the pins inside the machine. Vice City would crash on me every time I played after a while and I even exchaged my PS2 and copies of Vice City and would get the same problems. Its so damn annoying. It just seems like a much more recent problem then before.

  10. Dude, I can't even play GTAIII for five minutes without getting a disc read error. The GTA games are just buggy as all hell though.
