A lot of immigrants make better Americans than native-born Americans do, actually. The huge range of immigrants is one of the best aspects of living in Los Angeles.

I'm pretty sure I was earning more money than them, and I was a skinny 18-year-old who just barely got his HS diploma.
This sort of stuff is horseshit, and, hell, actually, if people thought that I was pro-this, then maybe Gibbets is a more perceptive asshole than I gave him credit for.

No, look, I don't think this is okay. I guess it's worth noting, though, that a Pakistani MBA would rather be a storeclerk here than a MBA in Pakistan, right?

Dunno, I hope so, or, actually, I guess I don't. I hope it stays fucked and the UK joins the US, Israel, Australia/NZ, and the ex-Communists in some sort of Atlanticist superalliance. Excuse original causticity, anyways, you were probably right to be critical as there is loads of racisim amongst the anti-immigration people. The main thing is, I'm not anti-immigration, I'm anti-broad-welfare.

Not in this case. He felt humiliated by his new position in life (I guess he'd been the manager of a store chain back home) and wanted to move back, but his kids liked it better in Canada and wouldn't let him.

It's something that most immigrants understand before they come, though. Most do it so their children can have a better life, even though they themselves might have to work a lot harder.

Damn shame. You know how a lot of call center work, customer service, telemarketing, is being outsourced from the US to India? It's been my impression that most people hate call center work here, it's a HS degree type job. I've read that in India callcenter workers are relatively affluent, are well-respected, and often have graduate degrees.

    Interesting stuff.

Agreed...and if you really want to take the position that Bush is some evil person, don't forget the rest of the government in our country that was also responsible for sending troops to Iraq. The President has no power unless he has support, nuff said.

That's the point. You can't have it one way now, and another way later. You either have the benefits, and appreciate them if you lose your job, or you don't have them, and fend for yourself.

It's like wearing a seatbelt: 99.9% of the time you don't need it, but when you do, you're glad it's there.

  7. Not to mention that losing one's job seems to be en vogue in the US right now

Funniest thing in this whole thread.

And for the record you pompous asshole [diffx], comparing someone to Hitler and calling them Hitler are two different things. I could compare anyone to Hitler, that doesn't mean I think they're the same, but thanks for proving that you'd much rather resort to mname calling than realize that your president has blood on his hands.

I can't for the life of me see whats so special about democracy.... any society is controlled by the governments. The difference between us and North Korea is you wont get shot for having a radical view, just life imprisonment. Maybe a little more leniant, but still control.

What the hell is the point of making an analogy like this? If you can't make an argument beyond what some jerk who took a semester of some sort of U.S. Government course, you should keep things like this to yourself. Look, this sort of thing was slightly funny in that little essay from Salon.com or wherever it came from with the Bush/Hitler comparison, but it's beyond played out now - it has risen above "BLING BLING" on the asinine scale. Clearly, America is NOT out to indescriminately kill innocent people. Whatever good Hitler might have done for Germany is totally negated by the terrible stain that his Holocaust left on the damned country. I don't particularly support Bush or the methods his administration used to get us into Iraq, but for the love of civilization, at least we were there to free people from a dictator (on the surface). The morals and the reasons behind what Bush was trying to say in his speech are entirely different from even the best intentions of Adolf Hitler.

Moron, are you saying if someone immigrates with a phD they should take a minimum wage job and pull themselves upwards from there? That system is nothing but detrimental to the people and I'd be ashamed to say it was my countries standard.
You don't really think he was referring to ALL immigrants with his statement, did you? I mean, I can't help but think you were assuming that. Please do clear the misconception up, sir.

First of all, you answered your own question. What's so special about democracy? The difference between us and North Korea is that you won't get shot for having a radical view.

Second of all, you don't get life imprisonment for having a radical view. You get life imprisonment for things like murder, corporate fraud, etc.

But, then, I guess you have a radical view if you're murdering someone or firing employees so that you can continue to make a zillion dollars a year while fudging spending records.

  10. This may be off the subject that this thread has reached at this point. But the figure-head of a 220 year-old government calling anything a revolution, is just about the most retarded thing I've ever heard.
