Thread: Who will reign supreme this holiday season?

  1. Who will reign supreme this holiday season?

I think it's pretty safe to say that most people who wanted a PS2 already have one by now. It's been out far longer than the other consoles so it's probably not as desired. With that, the question is: Who will reign supreme after this holiday season? Will it be the Microsoft, who in my opinion has a much better line up of hoilday games? Or will it be Nintendo, who has the cheapest console on the market, but doesn't have a very impressive line up of games (again, in my opinion)?

It's going to be a tough call, but I'm going to have to go with Microsoft. I think that games truly sale a console and Microsoft probably has a much larger and better line up of games compared to Nintendo's. I think this holiday season is crucial to Nintendo's success because if Microsoft tramples them in console sales (Microsoft will almost definitely beat Nintendo in software sales and they would actually kill them in software sales if it wasn't for Mario Kart Double Dash) and software sales, Nintendo will be in quite a hole. Good luck to both companies, but I don't see Nintendo doing anything but selling tons of copies of Mario Kart Double Dash. Keep in mind that after the price cuts Gamecube sales shot up. That tells me that everyone that wanted a Gamecube after the price cut has probably already bought one or their parents bought one and put it up for Christmas. With the release of Ninja Gaiden alone, I see Microsoft winning this holiday season out.

I think you're underestimating the PS2's ability to break down.

I honestly can't think of any must-have titles for either system (aside from the previously mentioned MK: DD) that I'm looking forward to. Mostly PS2 and GBA stuff.

Maybe if the US population consisted entirely of Satsuki clones.

  3. I think Sony will price drop and will sell the most consoles. Though I think GBA may put Nintendo over the top with their new aggressive pricing strategy for GCN.

I think all will do well, there doesn't neccessarily have to be a "loser" in the holiday season. I think that we may be able to support three systems that all hit a different niche.

  4. Who cares?

Look at the amount of kick-ass games this season, that's all anyone should care about.

  5. Bah. Sony could raise their price to $500, ban EA Sports from publishing PS2 games, instate a "no left arm" policy for all 3d character models on the system, and still outsell everybody else. Sony dominance is just one of the unchangable mysteries of the universe.

  6. I will reign supreme this holiday season!!!

  7. I think the N-Gage is due for some big numbers.

    of returns.

  8. Nintendo's definitely gonna do better than they have, but Sony's going to probably sell the most. Again.

...though, the Hong Kong Danger Duo will reign supreme in danger, for there are three of them.

  9. ... I hope Sony goes the way of Nintendo and drops the PS2 down to 150, or even 100. I would definitely shell out 100 bucks for one because I've been meaning to get one for a long time. It'd help boost sales majorly too.

Although I see Microsoft winning this holiday season with the recent release of three awesome XBL games. Plus Ninja Gaiden is getting pretty hyped up.

  10. The only battle these days is PS2 Vs. GBA. Lets not kid ourselves.

What is up for grabs, however, is momentum, which I don't think will shift much anyways. The gamecube will pick up a little 'cause its the cheapest and has the most hyped game, but it still won't do much.
