Kabuki Quantum Fighter
Shadow of the Ninja
Human's Kabuki Quantum Fighter and Natsume's Shadow of the Ninja were both Ninja Gaiden-ish platformers released for the NES in 1990. Which one did you like more?

I played neither but really wanted to back then. I'll give the nod to Quantum Fighter because you fight with your hair, which just plain rocks.
Christ, I love both. I finally got a complete copy of KQF a few years ago, was thrilled with that. I gotta go with Shadow of the Ninja, though.
Or better yet, Shatterhand.![]()

Great gameplay, graphics, unforgettable music, character diversity, good weapons, fun to play. It was a complete package. Hell, I'll bet those of you who've played SOTNinja remember that first boss that comes running and sliding at you as soon as the boss music starts.
The ending was kick-ass too.
Shatterhand - I wish I'd have gotten to play this when I was younger. I didn't get to play this for the first time until a few years ago, where I lucked out and got a complete copy for cheap. I've just about got it beaten - I've got to try again when I get back. I like the idea of using your fists, though....no one had ever done that so well in a side-scrolling game.
Kabuki Quantum Fighter because of nostalgia and it was one of my most memorable final boss victories ever (no continues left and I beat him with only one notch left in my life bar).
Both games are fantastic though, even going as far to say better than Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden III.
I think EGM overrated Kabuki (all 8s, was it?), but I'd still pick it over SotN (heh, pre-used acronym). Though technically impressive, SotN just didn't seem very fun -- it was annoyingly hard, for one.
And better than Ninja Gaiden? Not a chance, unless you mean the NG arcade game.![]()
Both games are good, but Kabuki controls much better than Shadow of the Ninja from what I can remember. The only real knock I have against Kabuki is the really annoying and shitty music, then again that's just my opinion. It doesn't matter too much though cuz Ninja Crusaders is better than both of them.
I thought Ninja Crusaders sucked.
Shatterhand was great. I was surprised the NES was still getting games that good a few years into the 16-bit era. The import has cooler sprites though; it's based on some license but I forget the name.
I would still put the NES Ninja Gaiden games above all the other mentioned in this thread.
Kabuki Quantum Fighter felt and looked a lot like the NES Batman game (see my av!), down to the weapons system and the way enemies flash when damaged... just way too much similarity.
Any connection, NZ?
