Watanabe acted better than Cruise, I'll give you that. I would definitely like to see him nominated for actor of the year. He did a marvelous job.
Saw it last night. WOW. Braveheart meets Shogun. Only film I have seen this year that has best picture potential. Although I have a feeling when LOTR: Return Of the King comes out next week....this movie will be forgotten.

every other movie away:P This is definately my new favorite film, the message potrayed in the movie was awesome, the soundtrack was great, the story kicked ass, emotion was captured in such intensity I wanted to jump out of my seat and yell. This movie definately kicked some serious ass.
finally saw it too, and yea, this goes on my list of great movies this year. plenty of times where i felt like i wanted to cry, but there were also plenty of times where i wanted to jump into the film and mess somebody up. and i really liked how the Emperor flaked on Watanabe. pure class.
Fantastic movie. The best of the year by far.
I personally think the Last Samurai was incredible. It was everything a movie should be. Best movie of the year...that is until LotR: RotK comes out![]()
I guess you've learned the benifit to waiting.
I agree, they should give people like you something. Perhaps a kick in the balls would do nicely and make you slightly less retarded.
I went to go see the Last Samurai last night and didn't have high expectations, I was a bit worried about the whole Tom Cruise/Samurai thing. My worries were put to rest soon though. I was totally into the movie from start to finish. The fight scenes were great, the set's were great, and most of all; the story was great. This was the best $8 I have spent in a long while, I will definitely get the DVD when it is released.
Also, when Tom Cruise got off of the ship and arrived into Japan for the first time it totally reminded me of Last Blade. That whole 1800's Japan feel and the old look of the architecture. Juzo's stage anyone?
Anyways, great movie. Make sure you see it!
Good to see that there is much less hate heat than over at KFCcinema -- I'm not going to go too much into why, because all the points have been mentioned already, but I stand by nomination that this is the best film of 2003 for me, of course I have missed some of the other notable ones, like Lost in Translation, so I wanted to make that clear. But I have seen a lot of films, including Kitamura's Azumi and other notable Asian films, and I have to say that this is hands down a fine piece of film. I don't care that it's cliched, all freaking films I've seen of blockbuster quality are cliched, if I want originality I will rent a low-budget independent film. This is a hollywood blockbuster and it does what it needs to -- kicks ass.
That is all.
