You betcha. Black and white birds. I'd definately love to live there. Get in touch with the King of Life thing. And let's not forget hose quaint little homes. Very conservative looking. Not trashy at all. Very refreshing.

    Nice.

They are? That's core. A plethora of facts so far. Anyway, I wish more people would be vegetarian in their later years. Humans consume too much processed sugar and fat.

    It's really unnatural.

  5. A book a read made me think Iceland was a lot of rocks, though the pictures make it look much cooler then what my previous vision was. I heard there is lava pools there too, is that correct? I guess visiting would be cool though it's probably cold up there (hell it's cold in PA), I prefer tropical climates. Driving on the mountain road in Trinidad and looking down through the tropical forest a few hundred feet to the ocean was simply amazing.

Climate: White Nights (24 hours of daylight) last from early June through mid-July. Summer daytime highs are in the high 50s or low 60s, nightime lows in the high 40s. Weather conditions are unpredictable: rain, sun and wind are common on the same day.

Details: Icelandic Tourist Board, www.icetourist.is, or Iceland Tourist Board North America, www.goiceland.org.

As for lava, I'm not too sure. I only know wthat they have lots of geothermal activity. In fact, Geysir, a spring where the term geyser was born is in Iceland. The original Geysir, damaged by earthquake and human interference, erupts infrequently these days. But the nearby Strokkur geyser spouts off every five to 10 minutes, a plume of water that rises about 100 feet in the air.

  7. High 50's to low 60's is too cold for my tastes. It wouldn't keep me from visiting if I had the chance though. Who knows, maybe I'll make a stop there if I ever get assigned to a North Atlantic cruise.

For comparison sake: The avg winter temperature is colder in Chicago than it is in Reykjavík. That's still pretty chilly, mind you, but it's not what people expect.

There are no 'lava pools" as such, except when a volcano erupts obviously. The entire island is volcanic though, so it's made out of dried lava.

    *déjà vu*

Only around 1% of the country is above the arctic cirle (see map), so while summer days are very long and winter days are very short - the 24 hours thing is a myth.

If you want 24 hours of day/night you should visit Northern Norway or Nunavut.

Oh, duhhhh. Yes, that's correct. The entire island is made of cooled volcanic magma. How stupid of me. Oh, well, I'm tired.

As for the White Nights being a myth, well, I'm not sure I trust my source. The Union Tribune also misspelled Erik the Red and Lief Erikson. I guess they just hire people off the street, eh?

  10. would explain why Bjork is so damn weird, must be the fountain water.
