It's going to break no matter what, so it doesn't really matter.

But standing it up is supposed to be bad.

  3. Vertical is the only way I can play Contra: Shattered Soldier, so I usually keep it in that position.

I've never had any problems aside from the occasional "disc read error" bullcrap.

  4. When I worked GS we would have many different people come in to trade-in games with circular scratches on the surface. Everytime we saw this it was from somebody who keep their console vertical. Guess if you don't notice it damaging your discs, you should be fine.

I guess this has sometime to do with increasing the focal-length between the cd and laser, as silly as that is. You could always use the scotch-tape trick on your disc...

I tried that. Never worked for me.

  7. I've always used mine in a vertical position and didn't have any problems until about a month ago. Now it won't read DVDs or DVD games, but I think that's just because it's a 3 year old Sony video game system.

  8. Mine's worked since launch in a vertical position, but I've never (well maybe once) watched any DVDs on it. Haven't noticed any disc damage either. Seems like a lot of folks that use their PS2s to watch movies have had theirs die sooner. Just a guess on my part though.

I kept my horizontal and I had the same problems, just open it up and clean the lens.

My PS2 has been vertical since day one, no problems whatsoever.
