I may be wrong here but, isn't she a public figure? And thus, open to satire and so such?

    Well, yes and no.

It looks like Parks' lawyers are suing Outkast under an invasion of privacy tort theory, which means they don't have to show actual malice like they would in a typical defamation suit (on account of her being a public figure). So the fair use/satire defenses are weaker.

It's early to tell, but I don't think she'll win.

  4. What the hell, the album is FIVE years old. Way to be on top of things.

  5. What a stupid dumb bitch. If you ask me or probably anyone else Outkast is paying tribute to her.

I'm sorry but I doubt that Rosa Parks has an extensive collection of Hip-Hop CD's...

  7. What does she care? I would understand if the song sucked. I wouldn't mind having a good Outkast song named after me.

That's what I was thinking. Also, the first song I heard by Outkast which subsequently got me to love them was "Rosa Parks." I don't rightly care about the title of the song as I just think it sounds good (although the lyrics aren't as good as, say, The Whole World).

So what's she suing for? Money or having them change the title/lyrics?

Waited until they got popular to get more money?

That would be my guess, though I don't know anything about outcast beyond hey, yea.

  10. She's 90-fucking-years old. This is one time I can promise you that it is not about the money. Again, I doubt Rosa Parks has heard of Outkast or even knew of the song til a few days before she filed suit.
