Thread: Current best Component selector..

  1. Current best Component selector..

About to move the big 3 from S-Video to component connections and need a new A/V Selector switch.

I need as many connections as possible and the old connections such as Composite and S-Video as well.

What and where to you suggest?

  2. I've been in the market for a good component switch myself. Here's a couple that I've turned up in my search:

    http://www.audioauthority.com/aacconsumers/1154c.html
    http://www.inday.com/rgb4x/rgb4x.htm

Given the price of those units, and your need for svideo & composite connections as well, you might consider buying a new receiver. Almost all of the new models include component switching, though they're typically limited to just two inputs. However, combined with the two component inputs on most HD ready TVs, that's 3 connections right there for not much more than those switch boxes listed above.

  4. If you're not upgrading to HDTV, composite boxes (one each for audio and video) will do just fine.

I'm surprised no one's suggested the MadCatz HDTV switch box.

Why would you buy a $140 switch box ? The Mad Catz one was selling for like $30 at Fry's the last time I checked.

anyway Jmet if your looking for something that does S-Video and Componet and has alot of inputs i personally suggest this

    http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=801668

    componet, and S-Vide 8 inputs
it also has 3 inputs for ethernet and 3 inputs for Fiber Optics

i have one and it works great, i have my GC, Xbox, PS2, and DVD player running through it and i notice no signal degradation
tones said he had problems with it with his Xbox but i think that was more a problem with his Xbox wires and such than with the system cause i have never encountered the problems he mentioned

on the website theyre 100 i think instore they went down in price recently to 90

i actually want to get a second one for S-Video stuff right now i have a pelican S-Video switch box that has 5 inputs and i have about 2 - 3 more systems to add to using S-Video so another one of these with its 8 inputs would do me well

  8. I think I might actually do this finally (buying a new house slowed that idea down).

I need to order the GC cable from Nintendo or Ebay I imagine, I have an "XBOX READY " t.v so ill just get the special cable for my XBOX since it saves me a connection on the selector.

Have things changed at all, better solution out now?

Price on the one you suggested Johny went down?

Well depending on what you have it hooked to, do you have a HDTV? Cause a 30 dollar switchbox will probably show distortion...I mean I get signal degredation from using the Xbox first party cables on my HDTV, so I'm upgrading to direct VGA. The thing is with a HDTV, you will notice things a lot more than on interlaced sets.

I know the one that everyone recommends in the JVC component switcher, so I would just go for that one.

Of course, that new switchbox sounds good and does offer more inputs...so yeah...not sure...

  10. I use the trusty old JVC JX S111. It only has 3-way component switching and 2-way s-video, but it works reliably and has no visible image degradation that I can see.

Order it at http://www.bhphotovideo.com instead of Crutchfield; last time I checked it was going for $79 there. Search for "JVC JX S111" since you can't directly link their product listings.
EDIT: Wait, here's a direct link:
