Thread: Execute Hussein?

  1. Haha, I guess:P

I'm basically indifferent on Saddam's execution, but I think overall it would be less risky to kill him, but it's tought to form a strong opinion as many factors are involved (including a human life, even if it is Saddam).

  2. Hey, I'm not saying that I would be upset if he somehow met a very unfortunate end.

But cka was right, I think. He would just be put up as a martyr if we kill him. And he'll probably end up getting what you don't want - the posh lifestyle in exile on Corsica or something.

As far as the death penalty goes, if we can't kill unborn children that aren't even sentient yet, then we absolutely cannot kill living, sentient beings.

Hussein should rot in a cell somewhere. Torturing him, or doing to him what he did to his people won't bring any of his victims back or assuage the families it happened to. If there were some way to do that, I am an advocate of it. He's a terrible man, and our catching him is hopefully the start of the U.S. correcting its mistakes from the past.
It's cheaper because the method of execution is overly humane. Gas Chambers, Electric Chairs, Injections, etc. these are all costly procedures. What's most prudent is the Chinese system; one bullet to the back of the head, the family pays the bill for the bullet. Simple.
    Time for a change

I always thought it sickly funny that the Chinese billed the family for the bullet afterwards...I personally would much rather take a bullet to the head then being eletrocuted, gased, or injected.

  5. Killing him is an easy way out, he has to pay for his crimes.

  6. No execution. Capital punishment = bad.

  7. I'm wholeheartadly against capital punishment. Let Saddam rot in a cell for the rest of his life. Let him get a chance to look back and see what horrors he's unleashed to Iraq and to the world.

  8. That's the problem, will he really rot in a cell for the rest of his life? I'm afraid he will go into exile and live the rest of his life quite fine.

The knowledge that you will lose your life and it is out of your control becomes more painful with every day it draws near. Can you imagine that, knowing your death date on a calendar? Much more scary than living in a place with tv and food.

    That's sadistic.

Look, here's the way things work. I've said this in the Victory Thread, too.

Life (meaning the state of being alive, continuing to live, living well) = Good

    Therefore;

Death (meaning the state of not living, the taking of life) = Not Good (even though we cannot prevent it)

If you don't agree with that, that's weird. But taking that logical line of thought, anyone who kills is not good. Hussein = Not Good. In that same vein, though, anyone who kills Hussein (or wants to have Hussein killed) = Not Good.

What I don't agree with is the idea that somehow, through some action, a person "forfeits" their right to live. That's bullshit to me. Nothing anyone does makes it okay to kill them. It's terrible when some guy murders fifteen children, but he still deserves to live. But then, I'm a dirty liberal.
