I sort of agree on your position but killing somebody under all circumstances is not wrong. If I go to war in the future and I kill somebody in battle I have done no wrong, if I rape and kill some civilian then I have. Maybe my killing of the person is wrong but it was the government who sent me there to kill them so they would be at fault.

You may see it as an excuse in my part to justify killing somebody in an unjust war, but I took an oath and for the most part the US isn't a bad country.

If you don't agree with that, that's weird. But taking that logical line of thought, anyone who kills is not good. Hussein = Not Good. In that same vein, though, anyone who kills Hussein (or wants to have Hussein killed) = Not Good.

I dunno, I want Bin Laden, him and a few other despots I can think of around the world killed, but I don't think that makes it not good. I can't selectively apply this logic to Hitler, Stalin, Mao, etc. And, it seems odd to me to wanna engage in the anti-death penalty crusade already. But, I guess he's the best case to make the point.

Bottomline, he's a human hardrive that needs to be kept alive for as long as he's valueable. After that, well, I dunno. I can't decide the ramifications of making him a matyr or tossing him in a cell. My main concern is the idea of what imprisonment should be by Europe and ACLU like-minded minds if they had their way. If he's in a concrete cell and never allowed outside human contact or any other form of communication, I can accept that. But, ya know, if a soldier was a bit trigger happy and Saddam made a wrong move during the capture, I wouldn't have lost any sleep over it .

It's terrible when some guy murders fifteen children, but he still deserves to live. But then, I'm a dirty liberal.

I see that as you being honorable and doing your duty. You're right, though, it's the government (which is representative of the people). You also won't be executing criminals after you finish fighting in the war.

I was being sort of general with my "not good" statement. Gohron was right - it's the government, not the people. I think it's disturbing to scream bloody murder when it comes to Hussein and Bin Laden and whatnot. You're just calmly saying that you feel he deserves to die, which is a totally okay and valid opinion. And, like I said, you won't see me complain if Hussein meets a truly unfortunate end.

I fully agree with that last statement. I'm liberal enough where I want him to live, but beyond that, I don't care HOW he lives. A five-foot square concrete cell is totally fine. The problem, of course, is that the ACLU and groups like that will have their way and he'll end up in exile on some plush island somewhere. I'll scream about that, too.
