Thread: GameSpy's Top 10 Games of 2003

  1. The list is seriously flawed.

Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution isnt even on there.....blah

  2. Spike - and your NOT a huge BG and E fanboy?? Your avatar is a pic of Jade X-P

Try not to throw stones when you live in a glass house ;-)

As for the actual games, I like Wind waker better because it has a better (more fantasy than BG and E's sci fi) feel AND MUCH less morbid/dark story.

I love the cel shaded graphics (bright, colorful, vivid, and great facial expressions on peoples faces) more than i do the darker/edgier look of BG and E.

I like the music in WW better simply cause its extremely well done (not to mention more light hearted/upbeat than BG and E), and finally:

WW has ONE unified gameplay style (exploration, combat, etc all woven together very well while BG and E has many varied but ultimately, not as cohesive gameplay sections (combat, photography, hovercraft sequences, etc.) and you are required to play thru them all in order to progress (whereas in WW, many of the alternate gameplay styles take the form of optional minigames :-)

THAT is why I said I thought Wind Waker should be above BG and E on the list ;-)

and before you go throwing insults around, maybe you should try actually supporting your position with facts/reasons :-D

  4. dhowerter, do you love the fact that Wind Waker plays exactly the same as every other Zelda game ever made?

  5. And a Star Fox game no less.

Damn straight!VF4 evo should be GOTY. ESPN NHL 2k4 should be on there as well but since billiards is viewed as much as hockey in the states, I guess gamespy doesn't care even if it's amazing.

I'm not even going to point out what is wrong with this post, because its so obvious.

I haven't played enough 2003 releases to critique this list much, but no Mario and Luigi isn't something I agree with.

  9. I'm really surprised Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution didn't even make this list, especially since they adored it so much in their review.

I haven't played many of the games on that list. Tony Hawk's Underground and Wario Ware are the only ones I've played beyond just a demo, and those are both worthy choices for a top ten list.

VF4E, Jak II, and Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando would also be near the top of my personal list, along with THUG and Wario Ware. I know GameSpy hammered Jak II in their review, so I wasn't expecting it to win any awards from them, but I was really shocked to see that R&C2 didn't even appear on their PS2 top ten list, let alone the overall top ten.

  10. I agree with those saying THUG needs to go and SSX3 needs to take its spot. I've gotten so much out of that game, moreso than I expected to even.

I haven't played BG&E yet, but I have trouble believing it's better than Wind Waker. I know it didn't offer much new to the series, but what was there was fantastic... it's probably the game I enjoyed most this year. To think BG&E is *that* good is hard for me to believe... but I hope to be proven wrong when I play it eventually.
