Thread: GameSpy's Top 10 Games of 2003

  1. I may be killed... but sometimes I feel that TOP TEN lists of the year shouldn't include incremental updates to old franchises. Ie, no Zelda, Madden or Tony Hawk titles would make the list. A game would have to radically update itself to make the TOP TEN in my view, ala Metroid Prime. Yes, this means that my beloved Halo2 would not make the TOP TEN for next year. These lists are the best way to encourage the more casual of gamers to try new things that aren't hooker filled GTAs, football sims or princess saving excursions.

That said, this is one of the better lists I've seen. And I'm glad Project Gotham Racing 2 made the cut, it's an amazing game that's going to be totally buried once GT4 comes out next spring. I would have bumped THUG off the list for VJ though.

  2. Zondaro, Halo 2 looks like a huge improvement over Halo. Sure its still an FPS but it looks like they are making big additions and big improvements in every single area.

In fact it looks to be more of a leap over Halo than PGR2 was over PGR. And if you dont mind PGR2 being there...

    Just sayin'...

  3. Well, I wouldn't have put PGR2 on a TOP TEN list if I was following my "sometimes..." feeling. When I say not on the TOP TEN, I'm referring to stuff like Gamespy's. If it was something like TNL does with each editor picking a personal top ten, then sure pick whatever.

And yes Halo2 will be amazing *crosses fingers* but... it's not improvement that marks my criteria, it's a marked difference. THUG didn't have this, Metroid Prime did. I guess that if you took every third Madden title... there'd be enough difference to make it worthy of my theoretical TOP TEN list.

  4. I heard you could beat Call of Duty in like 3 hours.
    More like ten.

And those are ten of the most immersive hours you'll ever experience in a FPS (at least until HL2).

And then there's the excellent multiplayer.

The game is more than worth the price tag. PC GotY 2003

  5. I dont buy any more World War II games FirstBlood...I dont wanna encourage companies to keep making games on that war. Yea, yea, my loss, whatever, no money to WW2 games.

I would spend money on WW2 games if I could tell them apart.

No, the fact that it sucks my ass makes it a bad game.

  8. DiffusionX - heh the irony. You diss Wind Waker as not having enough new stuff (even tho it does as the poster described above) and then you go on to praise Halo 2 X-P which looks like more of the same (with slightly better graphics) X-P

    ALL-

BTW, someone has to say this, games, whether they deviate a LOT, a little , or not at all from past entrants in a game series should be judged on how FUN they are, NOT how innovative they are. While innovative games can obviously be great fun (i.e. Viewtiful Joe), often innovation for its own sake goes to far and ends up ruining the newest game in the series (Jak and Daxter 2 - PS2 GAH too dark/morbid/gritty - the colorful fantasy setting of the first one was MUCH better, not enough actual platforming, and most importantly too much like GTA in its game progression)

So innovative CAN be good, but innovations is NOT necessary to make a great/even legendary game. Whats the most important here is that you have FUN playing WW or any other game, and unless you absolutely DETEST action RPGs, absolutely detest 3D gaming, or cant get past the "cartoony" look (grow up :-D), you'll most likely love the Wind waker :-)

  9. d, i agree with you about wind waker, but your smileys are causing me to have a psychotic episode, please use moderation with smileys

  10. Yep, WWII games definitely need to die soon. Call of Duty is the best WWII singleplayer and Battlefield 1942 is the best WWII multiplayer. No more WWII games are needed. Seems like Vietnam is the next target. Fucking sad in my opinion. We should leave this shit behind us. Oh well.

This list is pretty good cept I'd just give Prince of Persia number 10 and knock SC2 out. I'd get rid of FFTA too and replace it with... uhh.. dunno anything that's not as slowwwwwww and boringggg as it. Fire Emblem maybe?
