Thread: What are you watching lately?

  1. Seinfeld Seasons 1/2 (only a couple of eps in S2 have the intertwining storylines that made the series so good)

Sports Night (I had never watched this when it was on...what a shame, it's really, really good IMO)

That's about it as of late.

  3. Don't know if Salsashark is still around...

You're totally right about that intro, I had such a wrong impression of what kind of movie it was going to be that I was really bored through most of the movie the first time I watched it. There were a lot of scenes obviously influenced by other directors too (from all over the place) that were kind of uninspired if I remember right. Though there were good things about it for sure. I really want to see this director's newest movie The Taste of Tea.
Hadn't heard about that movie, I'll have to check it out sometime. I have another of his movies called Party 7 that I have yet to watch. It seems like the same deal as Sharkskin Man, though. Great premise, potential for excitement, big letdown.

Yeah, this movie is still amazing. The opening is one of the best I can think of in any movie, and the soundtrack just raises everything to this godly level.
I recently read the first 4 volumes of the comic (stupid library lost the last two), and I must say it is extremely fucking cool. Blows the movie out of the water in a lot of ways. Probably one of the best comic books I've ever read in my life.

I think the last two movies I watched were The Village (not my idea), and Sonatine. Sonatine is just a really great movie, I hadn't seen it for maybe a year or two and forgot just how much I liked it. I should probably buy some Beat Takeshi movies one of these days. I think I've seen them all and still never owned a single one.
I just got the remastered DVD of it and am looking forward to watching it, The copy I originally saw had badly washed-out colors and was fullscreen. Still amazing, though.

As for The Village...I can't take M Night Shymalsaflgreoan's movies seriously at all, but it was more interesting than I thought it would be anyway. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was good, but the guy definitely has SOME kind of talent. I think it's just been spread thin and wasn't enough in the first place. The performances he gets out of actors are not to my liking, and The Village seemed like something a pretentious high school/early college kid would write.
Yeah, The Village sucked big time. I guessed the stupid twist before it even started, and the acting did indeed blow. I did like Unbreakable and Signs though. Comic books and aliens, how can I say no

As for me, I just watched the CSI season finale written & directed by Quentin Tarantino. First off, let me clarify that I've never watched an episode of CSI in my life. I've seen bits & pieces, and I never liked it. All I know is that this movie (it's an hour and a half) was cool as hell, and had Tarantino's trademarks all over it. I loved the Dukes Of Hazzard board game, and the priceless Jack Nicholson impression. The main plot device was definitely just knocked out of Kill Bill 2 and put to use for a compelling thriller story. I reaaly did like it though, there's a lot of great and funny stuff.

Saw Land Of The Dead the other day in a theater and it kicked unholy ass. I want to give George Romero a cheesy 80's high five. For me, this is tied with the original Night Of The Living Dead for best zombie movie ever. I mean, it blows away the competition in the creative use of violence and gore, and everyone knows that's crucial for a zombie movie. There were way too many cool moments and characters for me even to remember... I need to see this again. I loved it.
    God is Rome

  4. I was recently introduced to Scrubs, and I cannot believe I have been missing this show! I have been watching the first season boxset, and this show is hilarious! I have also been trucking through Marmalade Boy and Third Rock from the Sun.

  5. for the ones that are bored with the same american hero i recommend
    Night Watch and Day Watch
they`re a begining of the Watch movies,4 movies(including the future Dusk Watch and Last Watch)made after the novels of Sergei Lukyanenko, the moment`s best fantastic russian writer...the movie is great and it gives you the feeling that matrix gave u when u watched it for the first time...the special effects are so cool and well made, the actors are top class, the story is grat but at first u can`t really understand anything(so watch the movie untill the end)and the atmosfere is so dense
the sad thing is that the second movie, day watch, has yet no subs and if u don`t know russian u won`t understand anything...but i`m sure that in a month or 2 there will be subs...
i hope they translate the books in english coz i heard they`re more deeper than the movie...the torrents are full so don`t wait

  8. been watching dead and breakfast. such a good flick.

  9. Watching Firefly, finally, after seeing so many of you rant and rave about it.

I dont think it would be physically possible for a person with even an iota of good taste in TV or film to dislike this series. Who would've thought that a space series without aliens and just a stellar cast of different characters and they're work and exploits could be so damn fun to watch. The show, the actors, the witty and sometimes hilarious dialogue, the twists in plot, all of this just make the show flow unbelievably well.

Now, I'm really bummed to see that Wedon is done with the series for good.
