Thread: Help my dumbass out with the Neo CD

  1. Help my dumbass out with the Neo CD

So I just bought one of the Neo CD units from neo-geo.com.
    Now I have questions.
I read that the CD games have both english and japanese versions on them.
    Is this true?
If so, was it only done on some games?
If I have a japanese machine and if I don't do the language mod switch trick, will all software no matter from what territory be in japanese?
Were there any racing games for the Neo other than Riding hero and that top view rally game?
    Thanks

  2. Just like home carts, the CD games generally do have multiple languages except for probably the Quiz games. NGCD consoles will be preconfigured by SNK to play games in a certain language.

There are 3 rally games- Over Top, Thrash Rally, and Neo Drift Out.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

Ok, so does Samurai Showdown RPG, Crossed Swords, and Crossed Swords 2 have both? For the fighting games, I could give a shit what language they're in. Were any of those rally games worth playing?

  4. Samurai Shodown RPG is Japanese only. Crossed Swords 1 and 2 have both language options. I have no opinion on the rally games.

  5. thanks bastard. The West Exit mentions a game called Breakers, which I've never heard of before. Any good?

  6. Thrash Rally is one of the best top view racing games ever created on any system. Period. Breakers is weak. Like most of Visco games, it's an impudence of plagiarism of other great games. It plays like SF Zero (which is not bad), but has a poor character / background design. There's a revision called Breakers Revenge, but not sure if ported to CD.

  7. Breakers Revenge never went to Neo CD (It's essentially Breakers with like 1 new character). Breakers isn't that bad gameplay wise. You could do much worse. Although Recap is right in saying it has poor character and background designs.

  8. Neo CD is horrible for fighters. The loading times are horrendous. I'm probably going to scrap my neo cd for parts for my JAMMA / MAME project. I used to play all my neo cds on an emulator, when I did play them.

BTW, Over Top is a pretty good game, but it is very rare. I've actually seen better rally games from Visco over the years. Top view and 2D of course, I could piss on 3D ones.
I don't know how to get rid of the huge space here.

  9. Speaking of the Samurai Spirits RPG... tell me about this game. I remember wanting it a whole lot back when it was originally announced, but for some reason never picked it up.
Is it a good game? Worth picking up?
As always, any info is appreciated. Thanks.
