Yoshi, Sony continued to call the original PlayStation the PSX until they released the PSOne. The PSX name is one of the few times where a system's codename stuck with it officially in some form long after it was released.

Sony stated many times that the machine that was called the PlayStation was NOT supposed to be referred to as PSX. The term PSX stuck because PlayStation-X was for a while used as a code name for the project. That is true. But Sony never, EVER called what we know as the PlayStation "PSX."

Yes, and a ton of the internet still refuses to do this, making me insane. Some people are delusional enough to insist that at some point there was an actual retail version of PS released with the X at the end, at the very beginning of the system's lifespan. I don't know what could cause them to believe this. Anyway, I'm glad Sony released PSX, even if it is being made obsolete by their own other products, because now when someone refers to the original Playstation as "PSX", I can be a nitpicking bitch and give them trouble about it until they stop doing it.

The group of people I hang out with on IRC has always called it the PSX, not sure why but I dont care.. its a matter of habit now...

I call it the PSX too. Just what I remember it being called before it was release and what I still call it... but I can still recognize the error I make and differenciate the name PSX from PSOne.
