I don't think it's so much "anal retentive" as much as "annoyed by ignorant people who refuse to correct themselves when they know they're wrong."

It's not that... it's habbit. I call it PSX, because since first word of the hardware came out, everybody was using that to refer to the hardware. Hell, once the PlayStation came out, some game shops even used PSX as the code for game lists and whatnot. Using PS, that could be PlayStation, or Phantasy Star, or a number of other things. Use PSX, and everybody knew what you mean. So for a lot of people - myself included - is just stuck, and you couldn't think of the PlayStation as anything else.

I don't use PSX because I refuse to admit that I'm wrong or anything, I use it because I used it for years and that's what I know the hardware by. As well, since I used to frequent places with a lot of Phantasy Star fans, it helped to make sure you were clear on what you were talking about.

Well, yeah, that makes sense. Considering the places I'd talk online, you'd have a lot of Shining Force/Street Fighter and Final Fantasy/Fatal Fury problems, because there were two distinct fanbases there, and when I said I had "FF3 PC" or "FF3 for Saturn", that could easily confuse some people. And Sega and Nintendo have been fucking things up lately, with Super Monkey Ball/Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Sunshine/Sega Master System! Argh! People need to stop recycling abbreviations.

I dont understand why Sony had to use the name PSX in this hardware in the first place. It's kind of like saying that all Americans who say "carry-oky" instead of ka-ra-o-ke are idiots (I wouldnt be surprised if shidoshi thinks this, actually). Fans have been calling it the original grey system the PSX for years. It's the fucking PSX. Sony just hijacked the name. Yea yea its their name but why didnt they call it the PS-R or something... it does have a recordable DVD drive in it, doesnt it?

If you want to be perfectly right, just say PSone. That's about 100% clear, unless you mean to specifically refer to your old PlayStation model in which case just type "P.L.A.Y.S.T.A.T.I.O.N."
