Avast ye! Payin fer softwares are we? Well pay no more with me 5 step scallywagin' program. In five simple steps I'll have ye hijackin' on the 'net like the scummy highwayman you are. Ahoy!
What you need for a good recording, even before you get to the software (in decending order of importance):
Good talent (musician and recording engineer). But you knew that already.
Good instrument. If the instrument sounds mediocre, you're fucked.
Good room. I can't stress this enough. The space you record in is everything. Move into every differnt room in your house, move furniture in and out of rooms, spend $60 to rent a place with two story celings. You need a great room.
The microphone. Yes, it ranks under all that stuff.
The mic pre-amp.
The analouge to digital converter.
The software. Are you still psyched that the software only costs $50? Without everything above, the software isn't worth a damn.
Honestly, and I'm not making this up. If you get a great musician and a great recording engineer, put them in an amazing recording room with a decent mic, and give them a Tascam 4 track to record on, you'll still hear some stuff worth listening to. There is just so much that has to go right before the recording medium (software) is even a factor.
