    Legal downloading is bullshit too. Most of the 99 cents youre paying on iTMS goes to the RIAA and its affiliates. The artists are getting no more money than they would if you bought the CD... except now you get a compressed lossy file and no liner notes or physical copy. Buying used is the way to go.

    Speaking of which, where is the best place to buy used CDs? I don't see them too often in music stores, and I don't want to suport the RIAA or their rediculous tactics.

  5. There's an independent used store down the street from me. That's where I buy 'em from.

    The FYE near me (same company that owns Saturday Matinee and shit) started to carry them.

    Look around, Im sure there's one not too far from you, as long as you live in a semiurban area or what not.

    If they doubled the bitrate of the downloaded files (128kbps is trash, no matter what the file format is) and let you download full-color PDF liner notes, I would *maybe* think about trying out iTMS. But I doubt I would buy it, because of the economics I spelled out before.

    I actually know someone who was contacted by Pepsi to do that ad. They didn't accept them, though, even though they said they'd offer them $500 just to meet with them.

    Actually... as I understand it, the artist receives about 11 cents per track sold on iTMS.

    In contrast, the artist usually only makes eight cents per pressed CD sold.

    So, while the RIAA is still taking its excessive cut, the artist actually gets more from iTMS than he does from an actual CD.
