Worse than Destiny 1? You're the first I've heard to say that...

  2. Not 2 but 4 new tales games announced? 0_o

With Tales of Symphonia scheduled for a release sometime in the Summer for North America, chances are that most of you reading this have yet to play Namco’s GameCube-exclusive cel-shaded RPG, that is unless importing is an option. Nevertheless, Namco has announced that a sequel to the GameCube’s Tales of Symphonia is on the way, going by the name of Tales of Legendia, and is scheduled for release later this year featuring GameCube/GBA Connectivity, being published by none other than Nintendo themselves.

How the GameCube/GBA Connectivity will be utilized has yet to be disclosed, however Namco has also announced three additional Tales games, and one of them is a Game Boy Advance title that has been left unnamed at the moment (also being published by Nintendo). The others are the PlayStation 2’s Tales of Truthia, the sequel to Tales of Eternia, which will continue the traditional 2D Battle System of its predecessor, and a new fan disc in development for the PlayStation One called Tales of Phantom 2.

    More as it comes…

  3. "Truthia"?

Sounds like a locale in a cheesy 60's government-issue educational filmreel.

Right on the border of "Don't-cut-in-linetopia".

Maybe its because the character designs make throw up or maybe because they broke the fighting system so you actually have to stop fighting and stand there waiting if you don't want to get killed in the battle, or maybe its the 3D work that looks like it was done by pre-schoolers, but yeah I'd say it's the worst in the series, though I only played a friend's copy of Destiny 1 so I didn't know it all that well. Oh, I mean the Japanese PS2 one, btw. I forgot Namco screwed up the names even worse for the US.

I agree about the character design (though I really don't like Mutsumi Inomata in general so that's a batter of bad and worse for me), but Destiny's battle system was kinda messed up in its own right, albeit in more subtle ways (really stupid and random choices of abilities for characters, messed up magic cancels, etc). And the plot was friggin terrible, and the encounter rate unbearable.

I know alot of people who really liked Destiny 2 though. I haven't the means to play it yet, but I still want to. Symphonia had alot more of what I was looking for in terms of story, character design, battle system, etc, but still... if it's a Tales game I need to at least play it.

The plot is still terrible. The encounter rate is still unbearable. The only thing good about I can say is the sprite art is nice and for the most part ignores the eye gouging character designs. It's just not any fun to play, so I can't see how anyone can really like it, especially if you've played other games in this convoluted series. It's a greatest hit somehow so It's cheaper than most imports, but it's still not worth it. I played it for six hours so I really, really tried to like it (and I didn't have anything else to play at the time really), but there's nothing to like. It is pretty good for the first hour or so, then it becomes incredibly repetitive and dull.
