not so great -- newcomer?? -- do we really need to build and create new characters when the GI Joe pantheon of characters is as big as it is?Originally Posted by Green

On another note if you want to see how cool an updated GI Joe Origin story can be check out these books : GI Joe Cobra Reborn and GI Joe Reborn. Origin of Cobra Commander, how he meets a current Zartan, and a kick-ass mysterious Firefly highlight the Cobra one, while the GI Joe one shows how a Joe team is formed to combat a Cobra threat with Snake Eyes sneaking around trying to thwart some of Firefly's assassination's in the background.

Yeah, he's now a one of a light purple skinned race of people who hate humans and live in the Himalayas, and is ordered to join the race of man to lead it to its downfall...COBRA-LA-LA-LA-LA........Originally Posted by Dolemite

Yeah, he's still a former car salesman who formerly lived a modest life, had a wife , a child, former military and had earned a purple hear for valor, etc. - but the government took everything he had away from him, saying he'd violated taxs and laws he never knew existed. When he lost everything his wife divorced him, took his son and what little money he had left leaving him a shell of a man --"once was a man?": in his words in the story:
"The tax inspectors had taken my business. My former wife had taken my home and all my money. All that remained was a mounting debt and the promise of losing every penny I had ever earned. All I Had done to deserve this was work for my family.I'd given them loyalty and respect.I'd been a dutiful father and a respectful citizen and had failed. In the eyes of the government,I died in an office fire that night--but I had ceased to exist as a person long before that.I learned a harsh lesson that had carried me forward ever since: the only way to bear the snakes was to become one."
While recruting Destro in Scotland he gives him this line :
"Your own family was betrayed and stripped of land and title. As an American,Iunderstand well how the English can extend their tendrils to grab portions of another man's profit.Remember, we once rebelled against taxation without representation. But tell me Destro, what has changed? We are both still taxed and persecuted;we have no voice. At some point, The money and the power must comeback to those who use it wisely. That will be our revolution."
a little more intersting than making him a multi eyed, Ras al Ghul, freak from an ancient race of people. If an origin story goes up for the movie, they definitely need to take a peek at this book.
Yeah as Dolemite said I hope Duke gets fatally wounded with a poisoned snake through the heart...and then have a full recovery at the hospital in the end.
But they can't show Duke in the hospital! No "thumbs up! I'm gonna live!". They just need someone to go "Wow, that was a tough fight! Oh yeah, Duke is going to make a full recovery!" YO JOE! Fade to black.
it still says nothing of Roadblock showing up and rapping and scatting while shooting down a shitload of Cobras. and they need to show Quick Kick.

Yeah, I heard this was in the works for a while now, but nothing really concrete had been announced. My bet is that the huge success of the Transformers movie is giving development of the G.I. Joe movie a big kick in the ass. If so, happy-happy for me.
And good news about wanting to stick to the comics. The old Marvel G.I. Joe comic book was fucking awesome. Well, at least it was until about the end of its run, where it got a little too obsessed with ninjas. Still, considering the fact that it was yet another advertising gimmick for a Hasbro toy line, it was very well-written.
I think their goal should be to mirror the comic exactly. Seeing perfect live-action versions of Snake-eyes, Scarlett, Cobra Commander (complete with mirrored battle helmet), The Baroness (yum) and Destro would be awesome. And don't forget all the cool vehicles...
