Thread: Remember the sounds of Arcades in the '80's?

  1. Frown Remember the sounds of Arcades in the '80's?

I just ran across this and thought it was pretty cool, in a completely insane way. The guy has alot of time on his hands, but you have to admire his dedication.

    Check it out

As a child of the 80s, I will never forget the feeling of walking into a crowded arcade -- the sounds, smells, excitement, etc. This page is dedicated to recreating the audio portion of that experience in the form of a long, non-looping ambient audio track.
He's got 2 tracks down at the bottom of the page, one for 1981, and one for 1983. The regular links don't work, use the mirrors.

It's actually kind of fun, listening to the mix of sounds you hear, trying to pick out the different games.

    Animal Crossing DS - EmptyOne / Meville / 0172-4142-9016

  2. Ah the memories!

This rocks. I'm going to DL both of them.

  3. Well, I've been listening for about 20 minutes, kind of in the background. Every time I hear the ship get captured in Galaga, I get a big grin on my face.

Those tracks rule and gave me quite a few flashbacks.

I suppose for those without nostalgia, they would sound like random noise.

Oh sweet, his 1986 version will include Spy Hunter! ::doots the tune::
Spy Hunter was my favorite game on the C64, and it was a very good port from the arcade. Schweet!

  6. I still prefer Mario's old underground tune over the newer ones.

Mr. Do's castle also comes to mind.
"Your soul better belong to Jesus, mmm-mmmmm..... cause your ass belongs to me!"

It was a great port except for not having enough buttons on the joystick. I recall having to play with two joysticks simultaneously.

I was playing Spy Hunter in Midway Arcade Treasure recently and it seems to have some frame rate issues that the arcade version didn't have.

  8. Time to fire up mame eh?

  9. Well, I'm downloading the smaller of the two files now, here at work.

Hopefully the IT guy won't notice a nearly 100-meg download headed to my workstation. This sounds pretty cool, ambient noise helps me to concentrate.
