Exactly. I thought it was pretty good and enjoyed playing through it and it certainly had some wonderful imagery and imaginative visual design, but there really wasn't anything that hasn't been done before.

I've never heard of XMP (never really bothered with Unreal 2 online), mayhaps I'll reinstall it and check that out.

XMP == Sort of a Tribes-Style mode for Unreal. It's also a bit of a preview as of what to expect from Unreal Tournament 2K4's new assault mode, except I think it's a bit more complicated with the resources and stuff. You go around the map taking over a nodes (A bit like TFC's capture points, but they do more) and generally shoot the crap out of each other.

It's good stuff!

Anyone else see that is says Unreal 2: coming soon when they boot up their Xbox Live? Looks like the game may actually come out this week afterall.
