    The Warpact Rules

Join us, in the Warpact. Destroy your pile of shame.

In the interests of removing that embarassing stain on your pure gamer soul, here's the 'rules':

Dig through your stacks, marveling at the still shrink-wrapped games you purchased at high import cost and never touched, tally up the total for each console, and make a post on here with the shameful stack (total number, and number per console, we can commiserate like AA club members).

Next up, pick a game, and start hammering on it. The one with the save file moldering away, half finished and crying to be played again, the unopened one you swore you'd play, whichever it happens to be, get it out, dust off the controller, and start playing.

Once a week (I'll bump the topic up), make a post with your progress. It doesn't need to be a game (or more) per week or whatever, just let us know Living diary of a pile of shame.

How 'finished' is finished for a game is up to you. Play it till you really feel you got enough out of it, then move on to the next. But don't let it rot there unplayed. If you realize you never shoulda bought it in the first place, take it back to the store and get some credit (+1 completed!).

For your convenience, I'd recommend bookmarking this thread, and taking a trip to video game tracker and putting your list in there. Do so and I'll hotlink your name in the Hall of Shame so you can visit it to clear out games, and others can stare at your immense pile in awe.

When you do your weekly update, I WILL post a progress list here, so yes, you will be rewarded with the glory of your name in lights as you demolish your pile of shame

IMPORTANT: Once your Pile of Shame list is created, DO NOT INCREASE IT BY PURCHASING NEW GAMES. Your Pile of Shame is based on what you have now, not what you buy tommorow. Last time we had a bit of trouble with some confusion over how your Pile of Shame list should be managed. If you buy new games (shame on you! ), don't add them to your list.

Clearing your Pile of Shame: If you beat a game (or otherwise feel you are truly well and finished with a title) it is added to your Hall of Fame total. If you sell it, trade it, or simply give it away, you subtract it from your Pile of Shame, but do NOT add it to your Hall of Fame.

Posting your progress: When you post your initial list, you ONLY NEED TO GIVE TOTALS. Save the full notepad listing for the webpage. So you can post PS2: 10 games, GC: 5 games, Xbox: 5 games, Total: 20 games. When you post an update to your progress, provide the names of the games you are clearing (and your grim or triumphant story to accompany same), and the manner in which you disposed of them. A quick tally at the end is appreciated, as it makes managing the listing here a bit easier.

  2. Beh, my Pile of Shame has GROWN since I last tallied it

I knocked off a lot of games from my previous list, but apparently I bought too many new ones in the interim. I'm making some progress on a few of the games on the list, and its pretty light on newer games. The grim, horrible core of it is a giant stack of strategy rpgs, including EVERY Ogre Battle release. More fool me.

Something else I realized, I have a fair number of games that I like to go back and replay. That tends to stall me out on beating newer titles (or even older, moldy titles :P). Legend of Mana, Symphony of the Night, Vagrant Story, and others. Legend of Mana is the comfort food of rpgs

And of course, I'm still training diligently on various shooters, ever in search of the elusive 1cc and higher scores.

I've got a fair number of half finished games this time around, but some of them haven't been touched in so long (Front Mission 3), getting back into them will be kinda rough. Then I have stuff like NFSU, where the horrid soundtrack drove me away, or Wizardry, which I can only take in fairly small doses. And I still own a couple of Games I Should Not Have Purchased. I thought I was past that

  3. Quick question: Is this our pile as of today? Or should I go and get from when I started posting on your previous post.

  4. Since we're starting clean slate, it seems to make sense for everyone to revamp their Piles to be current. I did It's been about six months since the last Warpact was updated regularly, so that's enough time to build up at least a few new games (and knock some old ones off for that matter)

  5. I know that I have some SNES/Genny games that should go on this list, and will double check N64. I am also not going to include the game on my plate right now.
I will 2X check these #'s by my next post.

    XBox:5
    PS2:13
    GC:5
    PS1:7
    DC:2

    Total:32

I should probably have about 10 -15 other games to add since I will actually go back for this one to the 16 bit stuff. All my 8 bit shit has been completed to death. BTW: This includes a game I picked up last night just sliped in under the wire.

  6. This is a MASSIVE consolidation of my old Pile. Virtually all of them are Questy-type games, as I don't feel the need to clog my Pile with shmups and whatnot.

    OmegaFlareX
    NES: 6
    PCE/TG16: 2
    SNES: 4
    Saturn: 1
    Playstation: 14
    Dreamcast: 4
    GameCube: 2
    GameBoy/GBA: 6

    Total: 39

Question: For the notepad file, do we need to include the brackets with the system name like so: "[Playstation]"? Another question: What is the site's offical name for the PC-Engine/Turbografx?

  7. Yes, and not sure. [SystemFoo] is proper. For the latter, don't stress it too much - since you can list an unlimited number of games under any header, it'll be a snap to change the headers later to match whatever we name them in the database. I don't think Masaka has put in any of the older systems yet, though I expect there will be a demand for them, so we'll get them added.

That's one heck of a pile hack, what'd you do to the remainder of the games?

  8. Sold them. Over the summer/fall of last year, I raked in about $600 off of games I didn't want anymore. I also took pretty much all of the action-oriented titles off, since I'm always swapping those around for filler. It's the RPG/Adventure stuff that takes the most time and dedication to finish, and that's what I want to use the Warpact for.

  9. Nice. Yeah, I keep shooters off my Pile of Shame - they're something I constantly work on, I never really complete any of them.

I REALLY want to tackle my strategy rpg mound, but I don't feel like digging into it until I knock off the 'easier' stuff first. When that easier stuff includes games like Wizardry, Dark Cloud 2, and Breath of Fire DQ... I've also still got evil games like Dragon Quest 7, *shudder*. I can't believe Strider beat that game.

Right now I'm working on Dark Cloud 2 (should be done with this soon), and Breath of Fire. Playing a few others, but nothing on my Pile.

  10. Hahah, DQ7. I beat that one, too. Even did most of the side-quests. My total time was over 160 hours. I wasn't even near completely finishing the thing... I still had levels and jobs to gain, more immigrant towns to make, the monster park, getting all the casino prizes. There's just no way I can do it all, since I have so many other games to play.
