Thread: MMORPG Stories.

  1. Never played it myself, but I remember a cool story about a guy who exploited a glitch in the original Ultima:Online and assassinated the usually invinceable Lord British during some ceremony. What was cool was that they kind of wrote the whole event into the ongoing storyline - what was uncool was they banned the guy afterwards.
Im not sure what time you're talking about (It's happened multiple times), but I was actually there for the first time it happened. During the UO beta Lord British was giving this retarded speech, TONS of people were there. I'm didn't get to see what happened because it was so laggy, so one frame he was up, another he was down and a player was next to him. It was AWESOME!

UO took over my life. Sure, I was in like middle school at the time so I didn't really have one yet, but it took it over. Let me walk you through a day in the life of my UO fetish.

5AM: Baha server comes back online so this is when I would wake up and play until-
8AM: Go to school and talk about Ultima with friends
3PM: Rush home to go play Ultima
3AM: Baha server warning, time to go to sleep for 2 hours!

During the summer, you replace the go to school hours with more Ultima and at 5PM I would try and get my mom to drive me over to a friends place with my computer so we could play UO without typing. There, we would attempt to pull 48 hour UO runs. When the servers would go down, we would either run outside in the middle of the night and jump on the trampoline or get on our bikes and go to the 7-11 downtown and buy some Red Bull.

I have like a billion stories, but I'll just share one thing I always liked to do. Back before UO sucked, you could attack anyone you wanted and loot them at will. It was AWESOME! So what I would do, is I would randomly picks fights, then put on their clothes and dance around screaming "IM SO PRETTY IM SO PRETTY!"

I had that on macro too. Stupid ghosts!

    That happened more than once?

Sounds like the one I read about was the one you witnessed. Too bad a video of that is probably non-existant, as that'd be damn amusing to watch.

  5. I remember hearing about when Lord B got the business end of a dagger. I was smiling to myself when I read the first hand account of the guy who did it.

Hmph. I don't have any really cool stories, like Tracer, but I have a few that make me, myself, smile. They always involve role-playing, and they always involve me getting treated like a king by those who I role-play with.

One of my Halfling Druids was fully twinked by a Dark Elf Scorceress, just for role-playing. I always started out each session by going to the bank to make sure everything was in order, and I always ran into this particular Dark Elf. So, after a few nights of just saying hello, I decided to begin a role-play session with her. I played the inquisative halfling, and she quite enjoyed my silly questions and answers. I asked her, trying my best to sound amazed, about her many adventures, and she would show me certain pieces of armor or other items she had found while abroad. One night, while showing me some druid specific equipment, she told me to just take it. She gave me all kinds of Druid specific clothing and such. She even game me a small Velium shield, which was the best piece of equipment I had ever owned, and this was when Scars of Vellious was brand new.

I've stopped playing due to "really-freaking-old-computer-that-can't-run-anything" syndrome, but I've been collecting the EQ expansions ever since, planning one day, when I finally buy a new comp., to get back on and play to my heart's desire.

Lame story, I know, but I wanted to participate. If my brother were posting, he'd have all kinds of awesome stories to tell about Asheron's Call.

  7. Once when my ex-roommate was running around in the Hibernia capitol in Dark Age of Camelot I got on his keyboard and area spammed that the Angels just won the World Series on a Role-Play server. It was kind of funny reading all of the "Forsooth foreigner where does Anaheim harken from" lines and dumb shit like that but eventually he got so many hate messages he had to log off for the night

I make me wish I hadn't hated Shadowbane too =( I played that thing out of spite towards the end of my 6 month subscription. Appologies to anyone at TNL who started playing it.

The Banker (Arrold) had some funny stories.

I role played this character. I purposefully made him as gimpy as possible. I had 120% bargaining even. I played him as an old english tightwad with a penchant for stabbing partners in the back. He was a trecherous fiend. All he could really do is buff himself well enough and use the base "mage bolt" super fast and alot. I planed on remaking him even better as a wizard but I got very tired of Shadowbane's bullshit.

At around level 35 or so I went around to one of the Bounty Hunter drops (disciplines in the game are droped by monsters at certian spawns and they're usually camped). This is not place for a gimped out level 35 human mage bard and the people there camping the drop were all L 60's. I Lingered around, and innocently said "hello gentlemen.. i'm just here to xp, don't mind my dalliances with the bandits here." I waited about untill I saw that I got a tell from a nototious PK group leader named "Squish" (they didn't wish to bother with little old Arrold the Banker) saying only "=("

See, the inside scoop here is Squish is a Minotar, other centaur PK players pretend to worship him (he's really just the guild leader of those centaurs) and all he ever says, in public, is "=(." I knew enough what =( meant. It meant Squish was coming and I'd better not be around when he and his "Pwnies" (play on ponies... ala centaurs) arrive. They were cruiseing, I was betting, for the BH drop. I figured, since they stay south of there, that heading north would be most wise... but I didn't want to miss the action. A proper Banker would make best of this situation and come out with some riches of my own. I head for the Bandits just slightly north of the BH drop. Not too long after that I see it all unfold in front of me. The little guild with 10 guys there camping the drop gets pounced upon by the Squish Pwnies (not only are those guys using some super duper character templates they KNOW thier stuff. They seriously are the baddest little group of PKs I have ever seen). They fight back pretty well but I could tell where that fight was heading. In the middle of the chaos, Squish arrives (Minotars are much slower than Centaurs) just to watch. Right as he settles down to watch the monster carrying the BH disc spawns. Squish takes it upon himself to attack that monster to take his treasure - after all - who can kill Squish? A lurking thief thinks he can. He backstabs Squish foolishly and Squish EASILY cleaves every limb off the theif. His partner Scout comes out of hiding and starts firing arrows at the mino. I begin to wonder just how many stealthers there are around here. I check my track (mage bards are the only mages that can track by way of the Huntsman discipline though NO ONE seems to know that fact) and sure enough there's 4 more rogues in the shadows - I track one and see that he too is closeing on Squish.

I ask myself, "What is the biggest, most jerkish thing I could do at this moment?"

I used my area of effect damage spell. It's not at all powerfull but it IS usefull for revealing all stealthers. As soon as I cast it from my safe vantage, I see 4 assassins uncloak. The assassins, despite not getting the jump on the opposition, fared well... killing off quite a few weakend Pwnies and hurting Squish a bit too. But the numbers weren't in thier favor. 6 to 4 I belive it was. When the last assassin was killed (and assassins can be hard to kill if they're played right). There was a nearly dead Centaur Druid sitting to regain mana for healing, and a badly hurt Squish - also sitting.

I think to myself. It was awfull swell of that Squish guy to warn me of bad things a transpirein'. As Arrold always likes to say, "one good turn deserves and equally bad one in return."

I sprint up to where they're sitting and shout "WHAT'S ALL THIS THEN?!" I proceed to nuke the sitting druid to death and snare Squish. I nuke from safety till the already badly wounded level 60 Minotar and leader of the Infamous "Squished" guild was dead. I collected all of the treasure there and decided that I should make my way home to the bank. I am a Banker afterall and I always live up to the motto of my one man guild, "PROFIT, AT ALL COSTS!"

When I was in the safehold of Kings Cross, I recived a tell from Squish.

    "=("

"Yes. =( indeed.," I reply. I then log off.

I should note that the 'treasure,' included a fairly valuable Bounty Hunter disc, over 600,000 in gold and quite a few nice weapons and pieces of armor that should (and did) sell nicely on the free WTS/WTB Market
    o_O

  10. Tracer, your stories make me wish more games had non pussified forms of PK'ing. It seems that NONE of the MMORPG's, whatsoever, are set up as free for alls anymore, and it's always "designated" PK'ing.
