Turtles

In 1981 Konami released the arcade game 600 in Japan. It was licensed to Sega which released it as Turpin and for the West it was licensed to Stern which released it as Turtles.

It was a maze game where you had to rescue baby turtles while avoiding enemies. There were a few changes made by Sega. In Konami's game the enemies were cars, in Sega's they were bugs. Also, in Konami's game you rescued all the babies then exited the level whereas in Sega's game they made it more difficult by only letting you carry one at a time. Some music was changed too. Stern's version was based on Sega's.

Turtles



Magnavox ported the Sega/Stern version of the game to their Odyssey2 console. There weren't a lot of great games on the system but this was one of them. It's one of the rarest games on the system.

I never knew there was an arcade version of Turtles. My friend who lived accross the street from me had a cool little tabletop LCD game of Turtles, and we played that thing until it quit working. Fun game.
