Review: Metroid: Zero Mission

I remember how impressed I was the first time I saw <i>Metroid</i>. It was behind some tacos. I didn't have many quarters to spend on it, but I intended to beat it someday.

Today, I still haven't beaten the first game in the series, but I am enjoying the hell out of the last. It's thirty dollars brand-new, it has intense action, commendable replay value, beautiful effects, and over a hundred consecutive shots. I'm not sure it tops the third <i>Metroid</i>, but it almost definitely tops any action game you played this month.

Wow, short, sweet, and professional quality. Good review. I think ZM is excellent and beats out the original in almost every department, including - no, especially - gameplay. I miss some of the old school bgms, and the new, more detailed backgrounds take away some of the mysterious atmosphere, but those are pretty minor issues. The first game NoJ's made in years that I actually enjoy.

Great review.

The only reason it's shorter than the original Metroid is because the map is better designed to eliminate backtracking.

And the extra stuff is cool, if frustrating. Those space pirates are really starting to piss me off.
