Is the FF series overrated?

I was playing a couple of RPG's lately(Arc the Lad:TotS and Lunar 2) and found that the gameplay and story in both were much better than any game in the FF series.

What do you think?

Yes. I like the series but its given more credit and admiration than anything could seriously deserve.

yes, mostly.
I find I hate the more modern FF's, but as these have sold greatly and opened the market up a little for other RPG's to come out, I can't complain.
Keep on making them Square. I won't buy them, but millions of others will, and maybe someone else will bring me another Disgaea.

Highly overrated, RPG's went Mainstream with FF 7, at the expense of true Square fans and some really great Movies were made. With that said I adore the old school ones on the SNES. There are plenty of Rpgs that are better, but the Masses flock to Cinema heavy rpgs and we are force-fed Square-Enix commercials on a regular basis. It really turns me off to the series.
