Thread: Hand Tremors

  1. Whoa Hand Tremors

I'm not sure how long this has been going on, but for the past couple of months I've noticed that my hands shake a lot in a lot of random situations. Or maybe not so random, because if I were to try and hold my hand up flat it would either start shaking or my fingers would start twitching. It's a little freaky, but I can live with that. When it starts to affect me and my daily life, errr..thats a different story.

I notice it at work a lot. At least once a day when I go to hand someone their hand or something my hand just starts shaking out of nowhere and I can't really calm it. It's not that I'm nervous or anything like that, I'm sure of it. I know when I'm nervous and when I am, my hands, nor body ever shake.

Tonight I setup a time and place to go to a LAN center to meet up with some of the local Unreal 2004 players and go a few rounds. After I got off the phone with the manager of the place, I decided to get some more practice in before I go to sleep. Everytime I went to aim something, if it wasn't in a thick crowd that required fast movements, my hands would start shaking, making an across map lightning gun pick near impossible. I have NEVER had this problem before which is a little frightening. I don't get nervous when I play and it's not like it meant anything. I just feel as if it's getting worse.

Sooooo...Does anyone else have this problem, and if so is there any way to alliviate it for the time being without resorting to our good friend diazepam? I tried to do a search on WebMD but I wasn't exactly sure what I was looking for. Apparantly only people over 60 years of age have this problem

  2. I sometimes got that as well, i don't know what its caused by, seems like lack of sleep + too many high stress games. For FPS's, i switch over to twitch shots (extremely fast aiming and shooting) which allow me to not have to attempt to aim smoothly. Otherwise, sleep more, or drink more, ya hoe.

  3. My roommate has the exact same problem to a staggering degree 24 hours a day. He's 26. He cannot even come close to holding his hand still. I've never asked about it, because I don't know if he really has something wrong with him and if it's a sensitive subject. He can't really do a few things that require fine coordination (like put jewel cases in a Seal King bag. He tears my bags to shreds). But the thing is he's a world class drummer down to the finest control of volume, so his overall "macro" coordination is fine.

  4. Wow.
Your entire hand, or just small muscle contractions in certain areas?

I would dare to call it a muscle spasm, which from my knowledge is perfectly norm, and could have spawned from excessive use of hand labor when your muscles could be going tired.(late night video gamimg, perhaps?)

I 100% Do Not back up anything that I have just claimed as medical truth, just a lil' random insight that I thought you could use.

  5. The twitching and stuff is mostly in my finger tips and the back of my hand. I'm going to go to sleep in a few minutes and try and get at least 6 hours of sleep in, then possibly take a nap before I leave for the match and see what that does.

Cheebs: I know what you mean. I have a lot of senior customers and every so often I get a customer with major hand tremors. I just act as if nothings wrong, be friendly and try and help them as much as I can without making it obvious =X

  6. you think it might possibly be arthritis? my older sister had a case of that with the shakey hands and what have you. made things really hard for her at school because it affected her writing. maybe it wasn't even arthritis? could be that's what you've got though.

  7. Rest is the best thing for it, I feel.
Once again, I'm not porfessionally linked to any medical members of my family, but it may also be a lack of nutrients.
If you'd like to humor this notion, try and fit in a glass of milk or something with calcium and it could aid as a temporay(sp?) fix.

  8. It might be hypoglycemia?

Or low iron levels in the blood?

Or just nerves being a little funky?

Have you talked to a doctor about it yet? If anything, my guess it has something to do with diet.

    I used to get that.

I was worried it was a blood problem (not enough sugar, low/high pressure, w/e), but never to the point where I saw a doctor. When it would happen, I would eat/drink something with sugar in it, and it would stop. Started thinking it might be some kind of diabetes bullshit (this is when I was at my fattest, so I was worrying). Used to make me feel a bit weird, too... can't explain it too well, but I knew it was happening. Like, I felt that feeling, and knew that were I to stick out my hand, it would be shaking.

Well, nowadays, I don't get it anymore, but it was frightening. Can't be a weight thing for you, unless the exact opposite condition bears similar results.

  10. I get them sometimes, especially after playing basketball, rugby, etc. I don't think having the physique of a heroin addict/marathon runner helps things, since I probably don't have the muscle endurance to "lock" my hand in place after a lot of activity.

In other words I think it's because I'm a big pussy.
