Weird double-click problem

I think my mouse has been acting up lately. I noticed this when I was trying to highlight a few words and they kept clicking off and sometimes if I close a window, I end up closing an extra behind it as well which is starting to piss me off to no end.

The mouse is a microsoft intelleview optical which I have set to single-click. I'm gonna try using another mouse to see what happens, but if the problem continues, I'll need to know what I must do to fix this.

My left mouse button suddenly stopped working so I had to get a new one. Lasted 5 years though.
