Thread: Super Bubble Pop

  1. Super Bubble Pop

I got the GC version last night, and I'm loving it. I kind of wish I'd have gotten the Xbox version when I first saw it a few months ago, but I passed on it, due to it being at EB, used. So I snagged it when I saw it last night. I found out today that it was also released on the PlayStation, which doesn't surprise me all that much, as it isn't the most technically impressive game out there.

The music is fantastic, and would seem more suited to DDR than a puzzle game. The gameplay perspective is kind of odd though, and makes it a chore at times to line up the bubbles to clear them. The screen tends to be a bit too busy for it's own good too, as everything moves in the game.

  2. I didn't know this came out for GC. The PC demo was a lot of fun.

  3. The game is extremely fun, kind of like Puyo Puyo on a 3D playing field. There's a PC version? Cool. This is definitely a game that deserves to be on as many platforms as possible.

  4. I've got the Xbox version, fun as hell with custom soundtracks. Nothing like a little poser popping bubbles to the soothing sounds of Rammstein.

  5. Good to know the Xbox version has custom soundtracks. The GC version has a huge jukebox mode within it, and it's the best in-game music interface I've used since PGR. Also, to amend the Puyo Puyo comparison, it's like that, minus the massive combos, at least thus far, that's true.

Edit - I just read the IGN review for the GCN version, and wow, the reviewer totally did not dig the game. Here's a link to it - http://cube.ign.com/articles/385/385980p1.html
And the same holds true for the Xbox version, whose reviewer scored it even lower - http://xbox.ign.com/articles/381/381735p1.html

  6. Meh, I think game reviewers fail to grasp the simple 'sit down and play' enjoyment one gets from games like this. I don't see it as something you'd play religiously, more like just a simple diversion between games.

  7. Yeah, the puzzle genre doesn't lend itself well (on the whole) towards being played for hours on end. Maybe 5% of all games in the genre can fit that style of play, and it's not always the kind of game that I want to play when I pop in a puzzle game. For me, the genre is enjoyable in quick bursts, with the occasional lengthy play session. And in my review, I'll probably mention that.

  9. Yup, as I mentioned in ye olde haul thread. I think that's the universal price point for it, as the PSX one is $10 going by a review, and the Xbox version was either $10 or $15 when I saw it months ago.
