Which browser is best?

I want to get rid of IE but don't know which one is best to replace it. I hear about Fire Fox, Netscape, Mozilla, and others and my universal response is:

Which is best? I don't want to have to uninstall anything that could fubar Windows, nor do I want to install 40gigs to get one running. Is there another browser out there that's simple to install and easy to use?

Opera for Windows is awesome. If you don't dig it, whatever they're calling Mozilla Firebird now will cover your needs adequately.

For Mac users, I'd recommend Safari higher, but for Windows, you can't go wrong with those two.

I could be wrong, but Firefox and Mozilla are very similar (I think Mo is a vanilla version of Firefox, and they are both based off of Netscape). I use Mozilla and only turn to IE on the rare occasion that Mo doesn't work on a site right (like if a Torrent link won't download right). The pop up blocker is downright awesome and I can't live without tab browsing now. It's a small download and install too.

Some people like Opera, but I tried Mozilla first and have had no reason to give Opera a try.

Mozilla is the codebase for Netscape and Firefox.

Netscape is a "branded" version of Mozilla (Netscape is a brand of AOL), and Firefox is a streamlined version of Mozilla.


I just use IE, because most websites are designed for it.

Ugh.

I use Fire Fox, and have never had a desire to use anything else since. It's so far above IE, you'll kick yourself in the ass for all the days spent on that POS. There's no installation... put the folder somewhere in your comp, make it your default browser and away you go. Don't forget to install java and flash and all that.

I don't know anything about Opera, but I'll bet a nutsack that it's better than IE.

IE does some nifty stuff with CSS that other browsers don't support.

All I ever use my browser for nowadays is TNL, MapQuest and porn.

They don't use scanlines =P

Firefox sucks at gif animations compared to IE.

Firefox handles .gifs fine for me. Firefox is so great.
